This Week’s Feature - Fall In NC
Fall in Love with the Blue Ridge Parkway 🍁
If you’re looking for a breathtaking fall adventure in North Carolina, there’s no better destination than the Blue Ridge Parkway. Known as “America’s Favorite Drive,” this 469-mile scenic road winds through the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering stunning views of autumn foliage, cascading waterfalls, and charming mountain towns.
Where to Go:
Some of the best spots to soak in the colors include:
Wagon Road Gap (Milepost 412.2): A perfect overlook for panoramic fall views.
Craggy Gardens (Milepost 364.4): Known for its vibrant golden and red hues.
Linville Falls (Milepost 316.4): Combine a short hike with a spectacular waterfall view.
Mount Mitchell (Milepost 355.4): The highest peak east of the Mississippi offers an unbeatable vantage point for leaf peeping.
When to Go:
Fall foliage along the Parkway typically peaks from mid-October to early November, with the highest elevations changing color first. For the most colorful experience, plan your visit around late October in the higher mountains and early November in the lower stretches.
Why Go:
Driving the Blue Ridge Parkway in the fall is more than a scenic trip—it’s a multi-sensory experience. Crisp mountain air, the sound of leaves crunching underfoot, and the vibrant reds, oranges, and golds create a magical setting perfect for family outings, photography, or a relaxing weekend escape. Add in local stops for cider, donuts, or handmade crafts, and you’ve got the perfect autumn adventure.
Whether you’re a local or just visiting, the Blue Ridge Parkway in fall is a must-see experience that will leave you in awe of North Carolina’s natural beauty. Don’t forget your camera—and your sweater!

Are Red Light Cameras Legal? Your Essential Driver Rights Guide
Red light cameras are becoming increasingly common at intersections across the country, but many drivers wonder: are they legal, and what are your rights if you get a ticket?
These cameras are typically installed by cities to automatically capture images of vehicles running red lights. While they are legal in most states, each state—and sometimes each city—has its own rules regarding their use, ticketing procedures, and fines. Drivers generally have the right to contest a ticket, request evidence, and ensure proper notification before paying a fine.

Olive and Her Journey to Freedom
In July 2024, a cow named Olive made headlines when she escaped from a dairy farm in New York, running for her life through the woods. She was one of several cows who fled, but while the others were recaptured and sold, Olive evaded capture for four months. Local property owners noticed her, a lone figure in the forest, and suspected she might be pregnant. When they realized she may have given birth, the search for Olive became urgent.
A dedicated rescue team from Farm Sanctuary, a nonprofit advocating for farm animals, sprang into action. They learned that Olive’s calf, a son, was born with severe musculoskeletal and joint abnormalities, leaving him in pain and unable to stand. Despite rushing him to Cornell University for veterinary care, the team made the heartbreaking decision to euthanize him to end his suffering. But for Olive, the story took a hopeful turn.
With patience and care, the rescuers brought Olive to Farm Sanctuary’s New York shelter. There, she found safety, a spacious home, and the chance to heal from her months of solitude. Olive’s story didn’t end with her rescue—she became an ambassador for the billions of farm animals Farm Sanctuary works to protect. Her escape and survival sparked a wave of community support, with locals and sanctuary staff coming together to ensure she could live out her days in peace, surrounded by friends in a compassionate environment.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
