📍 Trivia 📍
Longest Fall Color Season in the U.S.
North Carolina has one of the longest fall foliage seasons in the country — sometimes stretching from late September all the way into early November. This is thanks to the wide range of elevations in the mountains, from 1,500 to over 6,000 feet.

This Week’s Feature-North Carolina Fall Pumpkin Patches-Corn Mazes, wineries, & Hayrack Rides

Hearts & Humanity: Ordinary Heroes in Sudan
In Sudan, where war has torn apart daily life and where international aid often struggles to break through, a quiet army of heroes has risen—not soldiers, not politicians, but neighbors, teachers, mothers, fathers, and young people with everything to lose and hearts too big to stay still.
They call themselves the Emergency Response Rooms. These are grassroots groups of ordinary Sudanese who have stepped into extraordinary roles. Armed not with weapons, but with courage and compassion, they cross dangerous streets to bring food to the hungry, clean water to the thirsty, medicine to the sick, and even lessons to children who might otherwise forget what hope feels like.
Their work is not without risk. Every knock on a door could expose them to danger. Every trip to deliver bread or bandages is a gamble. Yet they keep going, not because they must, but because they believe in something bigger than fear: the dignity of human life.
This year, the Rafto Foundation, a Norwegian human rights group, honored these volunteers with its 2025 Human Rights Prize. But ask anyone in Sudan who has received help from an Emergency Response Room, and they’ll tell you that the award is not what matters. What matters is that someone cared enough to show up when the world looked away.
One mother recalled volunteers bringing medicine to her feverish child after weeks of despair. Another family remembered how food arrived just when they had given up hope. Each story is stitched together with the same thread—ordinary people choosing compassion in the face of chaos.
Their actions are not just about survival; they are about humanity. They remind us that even when bombs fall and governments fail, kindness can still bloom. These volunteers prove that love of neighbor doesn’t need resources or riches—it only needs courage, and the will to say, “We will not abandon each other.”
It’s a lesson for all of us. Compassion doesn’t always look like sweeping change or vast donations. Sometimes, it looks like a loaf of bread delivered in the dark, a hand stretched out in danger, or a promise whispered to a stranger: You are not forgotten.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
— Galatians 6:9 (ESV)
