🦐 Dive Into Flavor: North Carolina Seafood Festival Returns to Morehead City – October 31 to November 2, 2025

If the sound of seagulls, the scent of sizzling shrimp, and the rhythm of live music drifting over the water sounds like your kind of weekend, then Morehead City is where you need to be from October 31 to November 2, 2025. The North Carolina Seafood Festival is back, and it’s serving up three days of coastal charm, culinary excellence, and maritime celebration along the beautiful waterfront of this historic town.

Held annually in the heart of Morehead City, this festival is a tribute to the state’s rich fishing heritage and the hardworking communities that bring fresh seafood to our tables. From buttery crab cakes and grilled oysters to shrimp prepared every way imaginable, the food alone is worth the trip. But the experience goes far beyond the plate.

Festival-goers can enjoy live cooking demonstrations from top chefs, showcasing local ingredients and coastal recipes you’ll want to recreate at home. The boat show is a crowd favorite, featuring sleek vessels and classic crafts that highlight North Carolina’s deep connection to the sea. As you stroll the waterfront, you’ll find artisan vendors, interactive exhibits, and family-friendly activities, all set to the backdrop of live music that ranges from beachy tunes to bluegrass jams.

Why go? Because it’s not just a festival—it’s a feast for the senses. Whether you’re a seafood lover, a maritime enthusiast, or just someone who appreciates a good time by the water, the North Carolina Seafood Festival offers a perfect blend of flavor, fun, and fall atmosphere. So grab your sunglasses, bring your appetite, and get ready to shell-ebrate in style. Morehead City is calling, and the seafood is sizzling. 🐚🎶🍤

Whether you're in it for the giggles or the goosebumps, this is one Halloween event you won't want to ghost. Bring your lawn chairs, your coziest layers, and your bravest friends. Let's make this first-ever DCP Double Feature a frightfully fantastic tradition!

Sculpture in the Garden

The 37th Annual Sculpture in the Garden is now open at the North Carolina Botanical Garden in Chapel Hill, running until December 7, 2025. This free (donations welcome) outdoor exhibit features nearly 90 sculpturesby 66 artists, creatively placed throughout the garden paths. Visitors can explore a wide range of styles and materials, from abstract to figurative works — many of which are available for purchase. It’s a perfect blend of art and nature, ideal for a fall stroll, photo ops, or simply soaking in some creative inspiration. The garden is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Mondays and holidays. Pro tip: visit early for fewer crowds and the best lighting!

Stroll Through History

Take a unique walk through Raleigh’s past with the free, guided “Stroll Through History” tour at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. This hour-long tour winds through the beautiful 72-acre grounds, where you’ll hear fascinating stories of governors, Civil War generals, and everyday citizens who shaped North Carolina. Each tour explores a different section of the cemetery, with a relaxed pace and flexible route based on group interest. It’s the perfect blend of history, nature, and storytelling — all in a peaceful, photo-worthy setting.

Because we can all use some good news.

A Trooper's Quiet Fuel in Kentucky

Under a gray April 12, 2025, sky at a Pilot gas station in Lexington, Kentucky, State Trooper Ryan Keller spotted a beat-up sedan idling with an empty tank. Inside sat weary mom Tamara Jenkins, 34, cradling her two toddlers, Isaiah (4) and Lila (2), after a long drive from a job interview fell flat. Tears streaked her face as she rummaged for coins, miles from home with no cash left. Ryan, on a routine patrol, approached softly: "Ma'am, everything alright?" Learning her plight, he slid his credit card through the pump without fanfare, filling her tank to the brim—$45 worth—and even checked her oil. As Tamara stammered thanks, Ryan just smiled: "Get those little ones home safe; that's what matters." A fellow trucker filmed the exchange, which exploded online, amassing millions of views and donations exceeding $20,000 for Tamara's family. She used it to cover rent and enroll in nursing classes, landing a job by summer's end. How it made a difference: Ryan's understated generosity bridged Tamara's despair to hope, stabilizing her home life and empowering her to chase her dreams, while inspiring thousands to perform their own small miracles.

In moments of quiet desperation, a single hand extended can refuel not just a car, but a family's entire journey, echoing that true service blooms from seeing the unseen.

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
Galatians 6:9 (ESV)
