Freeze Warning Issued as Cold Front Sweeps Through Wake County

A sharp cold front is moving across central North Carolina, sending temperatures in Wake County tumbling from the 70s to near freezing overnight.

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning for the area, with lows expected in the upper 20s to low 30s. Residents are urged to cover sensitive plants, protect outdoor plumbing, and bring pets inside before temperatures drop.

Winds behind the front will make it feel even colder by morning, and patchy frost could develop across the Triangle. Officials remind residents that even a brief freeze can damage vegetation and exposed pipes.

This fall, there’s no better way to enjoy the crisp autumn air than a trip to Cloer Family Vineyards in Apex, just a short drive from Raleigh. Nestled among golden-hued grapevines, this family-owned vineyard invites visitors to sip, stroll, and savor the season. You can sample their handcrafted wines—from a crisp Sauvignon Blanc to rich Merlot or unique muscadine varieties—while soaking in the scenic countryside. Pack a picnic or grab one of their charcuterie baskets, lay out a blanket on the lawn, and let the kids (or leashed pets) roam while you relax with a glass in hand. Wander the vineyards for the perfect fall photo, stop by the friendly sheep and horses for a touch of country charm, or join one of their seasonal events, like cookie decorating or fall craft workshops. With warm hospitality, cozy vibes, and plenty of autumn magic, Cloer Family Vineyards is the perfect place to slow down, sip slowly, and soak up all the charm of the season.

Cary Grants Fuel Creativity

Cary’s got a big heart for the arts — and it shows! One of the main missions of the Cary Art Daze Workgroup is to keep creativity thriving right here at home by awarding grants to local nonprofits that make Cary more colorful, connected, and inspiring.

Each year, money raised through the town’s arts festivals goes right back into the community, supporting projects that celebrate art in all its forms — from murals and music to inclusive programs that spark imagination and belonging.

One shining example? The EsTEAMers Program at Esteamed Coffee. This heartwarming initiative hires individuals with disabilities who design and sell original artwork. Not only does it boost confidence and creativity, but every single sale directly benefits the artists — 100% of proceeds go straight to them as bonuses. Talk about art with impact!

Now it’s your turn to help shape Cary’s creative future. Applications for the 2025–2026 Cary Art Daze Grants are open until November 16 at 11:59 p.m. Nonprofits can submit proposals for one arts-focused project that aligns with the town’s priorities — especially ideas that add vibrancy to downtown Cary.

Since its launch, the program has already invested over $900,000 in community arts projects, strengthening Cary’s cultural heartbeat one brushstroke, beat, and performance at a time. Online Application

Potential Teacher Call‑Out in Wake County Reflects Deepening Frustrations

In recent days, teachers across Wake County are signaling the possibility of a coordinated call‑out or “walk‑in” protest, seeking to draw attention to long‑standing issues in education funding, staff pay and benefits, and working conditions. While it remains unclear how widespread any action will be, several schools have already issued warnings to parents about possible staff shortages.

Parents Concerned

Wake County parents say they feel “upset, angry, and scared” after Superintendent Robert Taylor’s recent remarks about school shootings.

At a November 7 school meeting, Taylor said that some shootings are inevitable and that the district’s focus must be on minimizing harm. Many parents said the comment sounded like acceptance rather than prevention. “The comment probably was said in the heat of the moment,” PTA president Heidi Belisle said, “but I wanted to hear what steps the district is taking to keep our kids safe.”

Taylor later clarified his remarks in a written statement, saying every student’s safety “matters deeply” and that “no loss or injury is ever acceptable.”

Parents say they want stronger communication and clearer safety plans from the Wake County Public School System, including timelines for security upgrades and drills. Despite ongoing efforts such as new weapons-detection systems and updated lockdown procedures, many families say they still feel fearful sending their children to school each day.

A Mayor’s Act of Kindness in the Idaho Mountains

In March 2025, Trevor A. Chadwick, the mayor of Star, Idaho, and his wife decided to celebrate their wedding anniversary with a quiet off‑roading trip in the snow‑covered mountains. What began as a personal celebration quickly turned into a remarkable act of compassion.

Along a remote mountain path, the couple came across a man stranded in his vehicle, trapped in snow and ice for more than 24 hours. Without hesitation, Mayor Chadwick and his wife offered him gas, food, and drinks to help him regain some comfort and warmth. But they didn’t stop there. Over the next four hours, the couple worked tirelessly, using a jack, pieces of wood, and traction boards to carefully free the vehicle from the icy grip of the mountain.

It was a completely spontaneous act—driven solely by empathy and a willingness to help someone in need. The stranded man eventually made it safely down the mountain, but the impact of the mayor’s actions resonated far beyond that moment.

Message: This story is a powerful reminder that true leadership is rooted in service. Acts of kindness don’t always need planning or recognition—they start with noticing someone in need and stepping forward with a helping hand.

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
— Galatians 6:9 (ESV)
