Hello friends!
This is the 4th of July week. As we begin to celebrate our nations birthday, I want to share just a few thoughts and storiAs we enter this 4th of July week and prepare to celebrate our nationās birthday, I wanted to take a moment to reflectābeyond the fireworks and cookoutsāand share a story that truly captures the spirit of what this holiday means.
In a small town in Ohio, families lined the streets for the annual Independence Day parade. Among them was a family whose son had been deployed overseas for nearly a year. They were there to enjoy the day, unaware that something unforgettable was about to happen. As the marching band passed, the parade announcer paused and said, āWe have a special guest todayā¦ā Just then, their son stepped out from behind a float in full uniform. His mother collapsed in tears. The crowd rose to their feet in an emotional standing ovation. It was a moment of pure love, sacrifice, and patriotismāa reminder of what this holiday truly honors.
Stories like this remind us that freedom isnāt just about fireworksāitās about the people who serve, the families who wait, and the communities that come together in gratitude.
Wishing you a joyful, safe, and meaningful 4th of July that warms the heart and hopefully bring us together
See you out there in beautiful Wake,
Diane

š Kindness in Action: Retired Texan Rebuilds Single Momās Fence for Free
In San Antonio, Texas, a single mother named Melissa Ortega was facing a major dilemma. After a recent storm knocked down her backyard fence, she reached out for repair quotesāonly to discover that the cost would be over $6,000, far beyond what she could afford.
She felt stuck, defeated, and unsure of how sheād ever get it fixed.
Thatās when her neighbor, Jhon Sims, a 64-year-old retired Air Force veteran known lovingly in the neighborhood as āUncle Jhon,ā noticed the damage. Instead of walking by, he knocked on Melissaās door and offered to helpācompletely free of charge.
āI could tell she was overwhelmed,ā Jhon said. āIf someone could afford to fix it, it wouldāve been done already. I just wanted to do something kind.ā
Within days, Jhon tore down the broken fence, sourced all the materials himself, and rebuilt the entire structureāspending just over $2,200 of his own money and finishing the job in just a few hours.
Melissa was speechless. āHe didnāt just fix my fence,ā she said. āHe reminded me that good people still exist. He brought peace back to my home.ā
Jhonās quiet generosity quickly spread online, where neighbors and strangers alike praised his selfless act. One commenter wrote, āThis is what community looks likeāneighbors helping neighbors.ā
And in San Antonio, thanks to Uncle Jhon, one family is sleeping easier this summerāsurrounded not just by a new fence, but by the safety and kindness of someone who cared.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
