Hello friends!
As we go into Friday, I want to take a moment to share something — it’s National Relaxation Day! In the midst of our busy lives, where days often feel packed with endless to-dos and constant motion, this day offers us a gentle reminder to pause, breathe deeply, and simply be.
Relaxation is more than just a luxury; it is a vital act of self-care and renewal. It is in those quiet moments of stillness that our minds find clarity, our spirits regain balance, and our hearts grow lighter. On this National Relaxation Day, I hope you will grant yourself the permission to slow down — to breathe in deeply, exhale fully, and allow calmness to wash over you.
Whether that means stepping outside for a peaceful walk, savoring a quiet cup of tea, or simply sitting with your thoughts in a comfortable space — take this time for yourself. Recharge, refresh, and remember that caring for your well-being is not only necessary but transformative.
Thank you for being part of this journey with me. Here’s to moments of peace, renewal, and gentle self-kindness this Friday and every day.
See you out there in beautiful Wake,
Diane

The Enchanting Wild Horses of Corolla, North Carolina
Along the pristine shores of the Outer Banks lies a rare and captivating sight — the wild Banker horses of Corolla. These magnificent creatures roam freely across the sandy beaches and maritime forests, offering visitors a glimpse into a living piece of North Carolina’s natural and cultural heritage.
The wild horses of Corolla are believed to be descendants of Spanish Mustangs brought to the Americas centuries ago by explorers and shipwrecked sailors. Over time, these horses adapted to the coastal environment, surviving hurricanes, harsh winters, and the changing tides of human development. Today, they are protected as a symbol of resilience and the untamed spirit of the Outer Banks.
Corolla is the heart of the wild horse territory. Visitors can join guided tours that safely and responsibly bring observers close to the herds without disturbing their natural behavior. These excursions often include a ride in a specially equipped 4x4 vehicle, perfect for traversing the sandy terrain.
Beyond the horses, Corolla offers wide, uncrowded beaches perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking. The area also features charming shops, historic lighthouses, and nature preserves to explore.
Because the wild horses live in a delicate ecosystem, the Corolla Wild Horse Fund was established to protect and manage the herd, ensuring a balance between human activity and wildlife preservation. Efforts include veterinary care, population monitoring, and public education to promote coexistence.
Witnessing these wild horses in their natural habitat is an unforgettable experience that connects visitors to the natural beauty and history of North Carolina’s coast. It’s a reminder of the enduring power of nature and a call to preserve the places where wild things still roam free.

For fans, relief washed over the city—Rip City’s heart would keep beating at the Moda Center. “This team stays,” Dundon said simply. Jody Allen smiled in agreement. A new chapter had begun. Read More

A Community’s Beacon of Hope in 2025
In early 2025, in the small town of Willow Creek, North Carolina, an inspiring story of kindness and resilience has been quietly unfolding—reminding us all how one person’s compassion can ignite a ripple of good in a community.
Meet Jamie Rivera, a local schoolteacher who noticed an alarming rise in food insecurity among her students’ families after the economic challenges of recent years. Determined to help, Jamie launched the Willow Creek Community Pantry, a grassroots effort to provide fresh food and essentials to families in need.
What started as a small collection drive in her classroom quickly grew into a well-organized network of volunteers, local farmers, and businesses donating produce, canned goods, and supplies. By March 2025, the pantry was serving over 150 families weekly, operating out of a renovated community center.
Jamie’s initiative did more than just provide food—it fostered dignity, connection, and hope. She implemented a “choice pantry” model, allowing families to select what they needed rather than receiving pre-packaged boxes. This small gesture empowered recipients and preserved their sense of independence.
Beyond food, Jamie’s pantry hosts monthly workshops on nutrition, budgeting, and wellness, helping families build lasting skills. Local youth groups have joined, volunteering their time and brightening the space with art and music.
Jamie says, “It’s about more than feeding bodies—it’s about nurturing souls and building a community where everyone feels valued.”
Her story is a testament to the power of noticing needs and acting with heart. In a world often overwhelmed by headlines, Jamie’s work reminds us that genuine change begins with compassion and a willingness to serve.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
