Hello friends!
👋 Welcome to June 23rd!
Today we celebrate a little invention that changed the world forever. On this day in 1868, Christopher Latham Sholes received a patent for the typewriter.
A typewriter? You know—that ancient device people used before laptops, tablets, smartphones, spellcheck, autocorrect, and voice-to-text! ⌨️😄
See you out there in beautiful Wake,

—Philippians 4:6
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
📍 Today’s Chuckle 📍
Why did the typewriter break up with the computer?
Because it was tired of being told it was just a keyboard's old type! 😄⌨️

North Carolina — where mountain mornings, coastal sunsets, and Southern charm make every day an adventure
North Carolina's Coastal Treasure You Need on Your Bucket List
If you're searching for one of North Carolina's most beautiful coastal destinations, look no further than Beaufort. Nestled along the Crystal Coast, this charming waterfront town feels like a step back in time, where centuries of maritime history meet breathtaking coastal scenery. With its picturesque harbor, historic homes, wild horses, and laid-back Southern charm, Beaufort is the kind of place that captures your heart the moment you arrive.
Strolling through downtown Beaufort is an experience all its own. Shaded by centuries-old live oaks, the streets are lined with beautifully preserved historic homes, unique boutiques, art galleries, and locally owned restaurants serving some of the freshest seafood on the coast. The town's scenic waterfront boardwalk offers stunning views of Taylor's Creek, where sailboats gently sway and dolphins are often spotted playing in the water.
One of Beaufort's biggest attractions is its connection to the legendary pirate Blackbeard. History enthusiasts can explore the area's rich maritime heritage at the local museums and learn about Blackbeard's infamous ship, the Queen Anne's Revenge, which was discovered just offshore. For those seeking adventure, boat tours depart daily to nearby islands where visitors can see the famous wild horses that have roamed the shores for generations. Sunset cruises, dolphin-watching excursions, kayaking, fishing charters, and ferry trips to pristine beaches provide endless opportunities to enjoy the water.
Nature lovers will find plenty to explore as well. Nearby beaches offer soft sand and crystal-clear waters, while the surrounding coastal landscapes provide incredible opportunities for birdwatching, photography, and peaceful walks. Whether you're sipping coffee along the waterfront at sunrise, browsing local shops in the afternoon, or enjoying fresh-caught seafood while watching the sunset over the harbor, Beaufort delivers unforgettable moments at every turn.
Beautiful, historic, and filled with coastal adventure, Beaufort is more than just a beach town—it's one of North Carolina's hidden gems. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or a longer coastal escape, this charming seaside destination deserves a place on every traveler's bucket list.

What’s Happening in Wake County?
🔥 Dry, Hot, and Under Restrictions: Wake County Faces Exceptional Drought Conditions
The heat is on across Wake County, and so is the concern. Nearly 30% of the county is now experiencing Exceptional Drought (D4) conditions—the most severe drought classification—while heat index values climbing into the triple digits are increasing fire risks and placing additional strain on emergency responders.
Residents in Raleigh, Garner, Knightdale, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell, and Zebulon are currently under Stage 1 Water Restrictions because they are served by Raleigh Water. The restrictions limit when outdoor watering can occur and are designed to help preserve the region's water supply as drought conditions persist.
Officials are urging residents to conserve water whenever possible, avoid unnecessary outdoor watering, and use extra caution with anything that could spark a fire. Dry vegetation, low soil moisture, and extreme temperatures have created ideal conditions for grass and brush fires throughout the region.
While communities such as Apex, Cary, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, and Morrisville operate under different water systems, all Wake County residents are encouraged to practice water conservation as the drought continues.
With summer just beginning and little significant rainfall in sight, local officials say every drop counts. Staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat, and conserving water now can help protect both public safety and the region's water supply in the weeks ahead.
🐾 Dog Food Recalls Spark Safety Concerns Across North Carolina
Your furry family member’s dinner bowl may deserve a closer look. Several dog food recalls are impacting pet owners in North Carolina due to concerns over dangerous pathogens and nutritional problems.
Recent recalls involve certain raw frozen and freeze-dried dog foods that may be contaminated with Salmonella or Listeria, bacteria that can make pets sick and may also pose risks to the humans who handle the food. Other recalls involve dry dog food formulas found to be missing essential nutrients, including thiamine (Vitamin B1), which is important for a dog’s overall health.
Pet owners are encouraged to check their dog food labels, review recall notices, and stop feeding any products included in active recalls. If your pet shows signs of illness—such as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, weakness, or unusual behavior—contact your veterinarian.
A little extra attention at the food bowl today can help keep your four-legged family members happy, healthy, and wagging their tails tomorrow. 🐶❤️
🏒 Sea of Red: Record-Breaking Crowd
Raleigh was awash in red as more than 150,000 passionate Hurricanes fans packed the streets to celebrate the team's historic Stanley Cup championship. The massive victory parade transformed downtown into one giant celebration, with fans cheering, waving flags, and sharing in a moment that will be remembered for generations. From emotional speeches to championship pride on full display, the event showcased not only the Canes' incredible achievement but also the unwavering support of one of hockey's most dedicated fan bases.
