North Carolina - A Little History
Kings Mountain: A Fall Escape with a Revolutionary Story
Trade your usual fall outing for a journey into America’s fight for independence. October 7 marks the anniversary of the Battle of Kings Mountain, when Patriot militia—including North Carolinians—defeated a British-led Loyalist force in 1780. The victory helped turn the Revolutionary War in the South. Although the battlefield lies just across the South Carolina border, its story is deeply woven into North Carolina’s history. October 7, 2026, marks the 246th anniversary. www.dncr.nc.gov
Start at Kings Mountain National Military Park, where the visitor center’s museum displays Revolutionary War weaponry and explains the battle. Admission is free, and the visitor center’s regular hours are Wednesday–Sunday, 9 AM–5 PM, at 2625 Park Road, Blacksburg, SC. Plan your visit. nps.gov
For another history stop, visit the Kings Mountain Historical Museum in downtown Kings Mountain, North Carolina. Saturday openings depend on an active exhibit. Museum details.

A Big Opportunity for Rolesville
WakeMed is planning a $53.8 million Rolesville Healthplex at Burlington Mills Road and Walls Cove Lane, bringing emergency care closer to residents of northeastern Wake County. The proposed 32,000-square-foot facility would offer a 24-hour emergency department with 12 treatment rooms, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services and a pharmacy. Although WakeMed received state Certificate of Need approval in October 2025, local development approvals remain necessary. According to the town’s latest update, the facility could open in 2030, subject to approval.
