Spooky Adventures and Fall Fun Worth the Trip
Some people celebrate October with a pumpkin on the porch. Others want singing skeletons, eerie ghost stories, or a haunted wagon ride that makes them reconsider their seating choice! Whether you’re looking for a good scare or a relaxed family outing, these local attractions offer plenty of ways to enjoy the season.
Cary: A Farm with a Frightful Side. At Phillips Haunted Farm, 6800 Good Hope Church Road, the nighttime lineup includes three scare-house experiences and a haunted wagon ride. The farm advertises Friday and Saturday evenings beginning September 25, from 8–11 p.m. Its published 2026 general admission is $35, while the $40 Haunted Snack Pass includes admission, kettle corn, and lemonade. Gather your bravest companions and prepare for an evening where the farm’s attractions are considerably less peaceful after sunset! Check the farm’s calendar for the evening you plan to visit.
Apex: Take a Drive on the Spooky Side. The town’s Tour of Frights runs October 10–31, 2026, every evening from 6–9 p.m. This free, self-guided driving tour features Halloween and fall displays at participating homes and businesses throughout Apex. Follow the town’s tour map, bring your favorite passengers, and turn the outing into a friendly competition: Which display gets your vote for most creative, most colorful, or most likely to make you check the back seat? Individual locations are provided on the town’s map.
Raleigh: These Skeletons Have Stage Presence. Deadford Manor, at 10839 Bedfordtown Drive, brings Halloween entertainment to a neighborhood front yard with animatronic skeletons that sing and tell jokes. The current 2026 event listing schedules performances on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from October 3–31, at 7, 7:30, and 8 p.m. Admission is free. It’s a fun choice for visitors who would rather watch the skeletons perform than have something chase them! Check the host’s Facebook page for weather updates, and leave neighboring driveways clear.
Raleigh: Give Your Evening Walk a Ghostly Twist. Raleigh Ghosts offers guided walking tours through downtown’s historic district, sharing local legends and haunted-history stories along the way. The standard tour meets at the North Carolina State Capitol and covers approximately one mile in one hour. The operator advertises daily, year-round tours, with departure options of 7, 8, and 9 p.m., depending on booking availability, and a listed standard price of $26. Comfortable shoes are a must; an enthusiastic ghost-story companion is a bonus. Select your October date and departure time through the booking page.
Holly Springs: Choose Your Level of Brave. The published 2026 Holly Screams listing places this home-based haunted trail at 401 Covenant Rock Lane. The nighttime event takes place Saturday, October 24, from 6:30–10 p.m., featuring live actors and a subway-themed entrance. Prefer your Halloween adventure without the monsters? Sunday, October 25, offers monster-free tours from noon–2 p.m. Both sessions are listed as free admission. Find the details on the Holly Screams listing.
Garner: Get Lost Without Getting Terrified. For a gentler fall adventure, head to Ken’s Korny Corn Maze and Adventure Zone, 3175 Benson Road. Its published 2026 operating hours are Fridays 4–9 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m.–9 p.m., and Sundays noon–8 p.m. For ages 3 and older, admission is $20 for the corn maze and Adventure Zone, or $12 for the playground alone. Hayrides are an additional $6 for ages 3 and older, operating Saturdays 11 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sundays 1–5 p.m., weather permitting. The maze’s admission page lists a season of September 26–November 14, and the last tickets are sold one hour before closing. This is family farm fun—so the biggest mystery may be which turn gets you back out of the corn!
Whether you choose a haunted farm, a ghost-story stroll, or a leisurely drive past decorated homes, October offers plenty of opportunities to make a little seasonal magic. Check the linked attraction page before leaving, bring your sense of adventure, and enjoy an evening worth talking about over tomorrow’s coffee!

$680 Million School Bond Heads to Wake County Voters
Wake County voters will decide on November 3, 2026, whether to approve a $680 million school bond for new construction, renovations, facility repairs and safety improvements. An additional $152.3 million in county cash funding would bring the combined investment to approximately $832.3 million.
School funding is also a focus in the District 9 school board race. Board Chair Tyler Swanson emphasizes educator support and increased funding, Brian Olson highlights parent involvement and teacher resources, and Cheryl Alexis prioritizes classroom needs and questions spending allocations. Voters will make separate choices about the bond and the leaders overseeing their schools.
