I told myself I should stop acting like a flamingo.
So I had to put my foot down.

Wake County’s Big News This Week
Halloween Weekend: Have Fun, Stay Aware 🎃
As Wake County prepares for a weekend of costumes, candy, and community celebrations, Sheriff Willie Rowe offered a reassuring update on October 26: his office had identified no credible threats or planned Halloween “takeovers.” Following violent gatherings in Raleigh this summer, law enforcement agencies are monitoring social media and planning a heightened presence throughout the holiday weekend, according to ABC11.
A little preparation can help everyone enjoy the festivities. Stay with your group, arrange check-in times with teens, and keep phones charged. If a gathering becomes disruptive or feels unsafe, leave the area and seek help. Call 911 for an emergency.
Drivers, slow down and watch carefully for children. Families, carry flashlights, choose visible costumes, and plan your trick-or-treating route before heading out.
Look out for one another—and help keep Halloween full of happy memories.
Wake County, Preserving Its Roots
As Wake County grows, a new investment will help ensure its farming roots have a future.
Approximately $10 million in state funding has been awarded to the Wake Soil and Water Conservation District, including nearly $8 million for 12 farmland preservation projects and $2 million to support local agricultural growth. The preservation projects are expected to permanently protect more than 600 acres of working farmland from development.
For our community, this is about more than keeping fields green. It’s about keeping land available for farming and preserving a connection to the agricultural heritage that helped shape Wake County.
As new neighborhoods take root, this investment helps make room for the roots already here.
Wake County Voters Are Showing Up Early
The election excitement is showing up at the polls. During the first eight days of early voting, Wake County recorded 70% higher turnout than during the comparable period in the 2022 midterm election, according to County Elections Director Olivia McCall.
It’s a strong start, though election officials caution that busy early voting sites don’t necessarily predict record turnout overall—some residents may simply be casting their ballots sooner.
Still planning your trip to the polls? Early voting continues through October 31. It’s an opportunity to make your voice heard before Election Day arrives.

I Almost Threw Out My Keurig. It Wasn't Broken.
Every cup from my Keurig started tasting weak, flat, stale — so I unplugged it and stuck it in a closet. Then I learned the dirty secret of grocery store K-Cups: by the time a pod reaches your kitchen, it's usually spent months going from factory to warehouse to truck to shelf. The flavor oils are long gone. Some brands even over-roast to hide it.
The fix wasn't a new machine. It was fresh pods from Angelino's, a family-owned L.A. roastery that roasts, packs, and ships within 3–5 days — straight to your door, from 39¢ a cup. Over 1,000,000 happy customers. 50+ flavors, no subscription required, and 15% off your first order, applied automatically at checkout.
