To My Valued Readers Across Wake County,

Good Morning, Friends!

If you’re looking for something meaningful and inspiring this week, I encourage you to stop by the “Going Home” exhibit at Pullen Arts Center before it closes on April 27. This beautiful show explores the idea of home—not just as a place, but as a feeling—through the eyes of local artists.

Each piece tells a personal story of belonging, memory, and connection. There’s even a full wall chalk mural that adds a playful and touching visual to the theme.

Admission is free, and there’s a closing reception on Saturday, April 26, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. I hope you’ll check it out and support our local arts scene!

Wishing you a wonderful day ahead! 😊

Wishing you peace, purpose, and something lovely around every corner.

See you out there in beautiful Wake,
Diane

📍 Today’s North Carolina Trivia📍

Did you know?

North Carolina was the first state to call for independence from Britain during the American Revolution. The Halifax Resolves, adopted on April 12, 1776, marked the first official action by an entire colony recommending independence. This bold move earned North Carolina its nickname as the "First in Freedom" state—and you'll even see that phrase on some license plates!

📍On This Day in History📍

On April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans participated in the first-ever Earth Day, marking the birth of the modern environmental movement. Organized by Senator Gaylord Nelson, the day aimed to raise awareness about pollution and environmental protection. Today, Earth Day is celebrated by over a billion people worldwide every year.

Morganton, NC

Your Next Unexpected Adventure

If you’ve never heard of Morganton, North Carolina—well, you’re in for a treat. Tucked in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, this charming small town is big on personality, rich in history, and full of things to see, sip, hike, and enjoy.

🏞️ Why Go? Because Mountains, Waterfalls, and Wine

Let’s start with the obvious: nature. Morganton is your launchpad for some seriously stunning scenery. Spend the morning hiking to waterfalls in South Mountains State Park, then chill out by Lake James, where you can swim, kayak, or kick back with a picnic.

Need a slower pace? The Catawba River Greenway is perfect for a relaxed walk or bike ride with postcard-worthy views.

🍷 Sip, Sample, and Savor

Morganton is lowkey a foodie’s playground. You’ll find farm-to-table restaurants, cozy cafés, and even a few hidden gems slinging gourmet pizzas or Southern comfort classics. Pair that with a visit to Silver Fork Winery or Fonta Flora Brewery for a local wine or craft beer experience—and boom, you’ve got yourself a weekend.

🎨 Art, Music & Small-Town Vibes

Downtown Morganton is the beating heart of the town. With local art galleries, live music on weekends, and festivals like the TGIF Summer Concert Series, it’s got just the right mix of charm and culture. And yes, you’ll want to dance in the street at least once.

📚 A Little History with Your Hike

Morganton isn’t just pretty—it’s historic. It was founded in the 1700s and once served as North Carolina’s “western capital.” Even cooler? It's near Joara, one of the earliest known Native American villages explored by Europeans. So, while you’re soaking in the scenery, you’re also walking through centuries of stories.

🎉 So… Why Visit Morganton?

Because it’s fun, it’s friendly, and it’s the kind of place where you can hike a mountain, sip a glass of wine, explore downtown, and still be back in time for sunset by the lake. Whether you're escaping for the weekend or just curious about North Carolina's coolest hidden gem, Morganton is totally worth the trip.

Pack your boots, bring your appetite, and prepare to fall in love.🥾🍷

This Week’s Featured Essential Oil

Wintergreen Essential Oil

Nature’s Invigorating Relief

Wintergreen essential oil, derived from the leaves of the Gaultheria procumbens plant, offers a refreshing, minty scent that has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Known for its soothing and invigorating properties, Wintergreen oil is a staple in both aromatherapy and natural wellness routines.

Key Benefits of Wintergreen Essential Oil

  1. Muscle and Joint Relief: One of the most popular uses for Wintergreen oil is its ability to ease sore muscles and joint discomfort. When diluted and massaged into the skin, it provides a cooling sensation that can help alleviate tension and inflammation, making it a go-to remedy for athletes or anyone experiencing physical strain.

  2. Refreshing and Energizing: With its crisp, minty aroma, Wintergreen oil can help clear the mind, uplift the spirit, and promote mental clarity. It’s often used to invigorate the senses during times of fatigue or sluggishness.

  3. Natural Pain Relief: Wintergreen contains methyl salicylate, a compound found in aspirin, which is known for its pain-relieving properties. This makes Wintergreen oil an excellent choice for addressing headaches and muscle pain.

  4. Skin Care: Wintergreen’s anti-inflammatory properties make it beneficial in skin care for soothing irritations and calming redness, though it should always be used with caution and in proper dilution due to its potency.

How to Use Wintergreen Essential Oil

  • Aromatically: Diffuse Wintergreen oil in your home or office to enjoy its refreshing, energizing scent. It can also help purify the air.

  • Topically: Mix Wintergreen with a carrier oil and massage it into areas of discomfort, such as sore muscles or tense shoulders. Always perform a patch test first to ensure skin sensitivity.

  • In a Bath: Add a few drops of Wintergreen oil to your bath water for a soothing, full-body relaxation experience.

While Wintergreen oil is effective and beneficial, it should be used with care. Due to its high concentration of methyl salicylate, it should not be ingested and must be diluted properly when applied topically. It’s also advised to keep it away from children and pregnant women.

Incorporating Wintergreen essential oil into your wellness routine can provide a natural, refreshing way to support both your physical and mental well-being. Whether you're soothing tired muscles or simply enjoying a burst of freshness, this essential oil is a versatile addition to any collection.
