🍓 Berry Sweet Fun in Wake County!
Tuesday, May 20th, is National Pick Strawberries Day — and lucky for us in Wake County, it comes right in the heart of our local strawberry season!
That means it’s the perfect excuse to grab a bucket, gather the family, and head out to one of our many local farms for some fresh-air fun and juicy red treasures. Whether you're baking a pie, making jam, or just eating them straight from the basket, there's nothing quite like a hand-picked North Carolina strawberry.
🗓 When’s the Season?
Strawberries are ripe and ready from mid-April to early June in our region, with May being the absolute peak. So now’s the time to get pickin’!

What’s Happening in Wake County?
🐾 Wake County Animal Center Updates Child Visitor Policy
To help reduce stress for shelter animals and ensure safety, the Wake County Animal Center has updated its policy on young visitors. Children under 18 are now restricted from entering the adoption floor, even with adult supervision.
The change follows concerns about noise and unpredictable activity affecting the well-being of animals. Families are still welcome to adopt but may need to follow new procedures during their visit.

Wake County is facing record-breaking heat, putting vulnerable groups like seniors, children, and those with health issues at risk. To help, the county’s Cool for Wake program accepts donations of air conditioners, fans, or money—100% of which go directly to helping families stay cool and safe. Donate today to make a difference! Stolen Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Garner Without Arrests
Early Sunday morning, Wake County deputies engaged in a pursuit of a stolen vehicle near the intersection of U.S. Highway 401 and N.C. Highway 540. The chase came to an end on Benson Road near Birdie Drive in Garner, where both the driver and passenger abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. A K-9 unit was deployed to track the suspects, but no arrests have been made at this time. Read More
Evening in Red’ Shines Spotlight on Heart Health
The Triangle chapter of the American Heart Association hosted its annual "Evening in Red" event in Raleigh, drawing attention to the importance of heart health. The evening featured a silent auction and a fashion show, all aimed at raising awareness and support for women’s heart health initiatives. Read More
Kidnapping Suspects in Garner Now Facing Federal Charges
Three suspects accused of abducting a mother and her 13-month-old daughter from their Garner residence are now facing federal charges. According to court documents, the suspects forced entry into the home, with one reportedly carrying a semi-automatic handgun. All three individuals are currently in custody and being held on ICE detainers. Read More
Toddler Rescued from Near Drowning at Wendell Pool
Wendell, NC — May 19, 2025 — A 2-year-old was rescued from a near-drowning incident at the Summer Glen Apartments pool over the weekend.
Witnesses say the toddler was found unresponsive in the water before a bystander quickly pulled the child out and began CPR. Emergency crews arrived shortly after and transported the child to a hospital, where they were reported to be alert and recovering.
Authorities credit the bystander's quick actions for saving the child’s life. The incident remains under investigation. Read More

A simple conversation turned into a life-changing moment for Emelee “Manhattan” Deming, a 24-year-old waitress in Williamstown, WV. While chatting with a couple at DaVinci’s Restaurant, she shared that she’s a single mom with dreams of becoming a nurse.
To her surprise, the couple left a $2,000 tip on their $148 bill.
