🍇 A Sip of Romance: Weekend Getaway to North Carolina’s Yadkin Valley Wine Country

Looking to trade your busy schedule for vineyard views and sweet moments with someone special? North Carolina’s Yadkin Valley is the ultimate destination for a romantic weekend getaway. With rolling hills, cozy inns, and more than 40 wineries to explore, it’s a peaceful escape that feels worlds away—yet it’s just a short drive from most major cities in the state.

Friday: Arrival & A Toast to Love

Arrive in the quaint town of Elkin, where you’ll find charming bed-and-breakfasts and boutique inns that are perfect for couples. The Fairfield Inn & Suites Elkin is a popular choice with a cozy fireplace, complimentary wine hour, and a country breakfast to start your mornings.

Ease into the weekend with a visit to Raffaldini Vineyards, a romantic estate with Italian flair. Wander the grounds, enjoy a wine flight on the terrace, and watch the sun set behind the Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s one of the most picturesque places in North Carolina to raise a glass together.

End the evening with dinner at Harvest Grill at Shelton Vineyards, where every dish is thoughtfully crafted and paired with local wines. The atmosphere? Intimate, candlelit, and unforgettable.

Saturday: Savor the Flavors of the Valley

Begin your day with a slow breakfast before heading out to explore the valley’s wine trail. Local favorites include:

  • Jones von Drehle Vineyards & Winery – elegant and serene

  • Elkin Creek Vineyard – known for brick-oven pizzas and creekside views

  • Grassy Creek Vineyard – rustic charm and peaceful trails

Take your time, sip at your own pace, and enjoy a light lunch at a vineyard picnic area or a local café. Some inns even offer pre-packed picnic baskets for couples—just ask ahead.

In the afternoon, treat yourselves to something extra special like a private wine tasting, chocolate pairing, or even a couples massage at a nearby spa.

For dinner, head back into town for a more casual meal at Southern on Main—an Elkin gem serving elevated Southern cuisine in a relaxed, romantic setting.

Sunday: Slow Mornings & Sweet Memories

Wrap up your weekend with a peaceful morning walk, perhaps around the vineyard or nearby Stone Mountain State Park if you're feeling adventurous. Grab one last coffee together, maybe pick up a bottle of your favorite wine to take home, and soak in the final moments of your getaway.

Before you leave, stop at Round Peak Vineyards—it’s laid-back, pet-friendly, and offers panoramic views that make saying goodbye just a little bit harder.

💞 Why Yadkin Valley Is the Perfect Couples’ Escape

  • Scenic views with peaceful, uncrowded wineries

  • Affordable luxury just a few hours from Raleigh, Charlotte, or Greensboro

  • Warm Southern hospitality, fine wine, and unforgettable sunsets

Whether you're celebrating something big or simply each other, Yadkin Valley is proof that romance doesn’t need a plane ticket—just the right place and the right person.

‘Toll Road’s Dead’- NC Lawmakers Halt Wake County Road-Widening Plan

North Carolina lawmakers have officially stopped the toll road project that aimed to widen major roads in Wake County. After significant public opposition and concerns over costs and environmental impact, the state has paused all funding and planning for the toll lanes.

Originally designed to reduce traffic congestion by adding tolled lanes, the plan faced pushback from residents worried about high tolls and how it might affect local communities. Lawmakers say they want to explore other options before proceeding.

Wake County officials will now focus on alternative solutions like improving public transit and upgrading existing roads without tolls.

With the toll road plan on hold, drivers in the growing area await new ideas to tackle traffic issues. Read More
