Duplin Winery

Tucked away in the charming town of Rose Hill, North Carolina, Duplin Winery isn’t just the oldest and largest winery in the state—it’s a love story in a glass. From the moment you arrive, the gentle scent of ripening grapes and the warmth of Southern hospitality set the perfect scene for a romantic escape. Founded in 1975, Duplin Winery has become a cornerstone of North Carolina’s wine culture. Its story is rooted in family, tradition, and the sweet, sun-kissed muscadine grapes that thrive in the region. These grapes—juicy, robust, and naturally sweet—form the heart of Duplin’s signature wines, offering a taste that is uniquely Southern. Each bottle is a testament to generations of care, craftsmanship, and passion for winemaking.

Duplin Winery is renowned for its sweet muscadine wines, which range from crisp and refreshing to luxuriously indulgent. Favorites include Hatteras Red, Scuppernong, and Carolina Sweet—perfect for sharing with someone special as you toast to love and laughter. Beyond muscadine, the winery also produces a variety of fruit wines, ideal for those looking for something light and playful. A visit to Duplin is more than just wine tasting—it’s an immersion in romance and beauty. Stroll hand-in-hand through the scenic vineyards, where rows of verdant vines stretch toward the horizon. Pause at the tasting room and savor flights of wine, each sip highlighting the rich history and passion behind the craft. The tasting room itself exudes Southern charm, complete with cozy nooks for intimate conversation and picture-perfect spots for capturing memories.

Whether you’re wandering the vineyards, discovering new favorite wines in a tasting, or enjoying one of the winery’s live music events or seasonal celebrations, Duplin Winery offers a perfect blend of history, flavor, and romance. The picturesque setting, warm hospitality, and exquisite wines make it an ideal destination for couples, friends, or anyone looking to savor the slower pleasures of life. Raise a glass, toast the moment, and let the sweet notes of North Carolina’s oldest winery sweep you away.

While returning from dinner, Pickett witnessed a car crash that left the vehicle sparking near downed power lines. Without hesitation, he and his father pulled the disoriented driver to safety just moments before the car erupted in flames. The man’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Raleigh Crime Shows Mixed Trends in 2025

Raleigh has seen a slight decline in overall crime in 2025, with decreases in aggravated assault, motor vehicle theft, and some violent crimes compared to last year.

However, homicides have risen, and other offenses like assault, fraud, and disorderly conduct remain high, highlighting ongoing public safety challenges.

City officials are focusing on community policing and prevention programs to sustain improvements and address emerging concerns.

An Everyday Hero

After Hurricane Helene left parts of North Carolina reeling, David Burke, a compassionate local resident, took action to lift his community’s spirits. What started as a plan to serve 1,000 Thanksgiving meals in Newland quickly grew into a massive effort, reaching over 5,000 residents in need. With the help of around 200 volunteers, Burke organized the preparation and distribution of meals, including 100 turkeys and hams along with traditional sides.

The initiative, called “Operation Thanksgiving Blessings,” also included a special Eastern-style barbecue for 500 veterans, coordinated through the Seaboard Lions Club to ensure everything ran smoothly and transparently. The event, held just two months after the hurricane, not only nourished bodies but also lifted spirits, giving the community a sense of hope and togetherness.

Burke’s selfless dedication is a shining example of how one person’s compassion can create a ripple effect of kindness. In a time of uncertainty and loss, his actions reminded everyone that humanity, generosity, and community can overcome even the toughest challenges.

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
