Hello friends!
As we welcome September, today, September 3rd, is National Food Bank Day – a wonderful reminder to think about those in our communities who may be struggling to put food on the table. It’s a day to pause, reflect, and consider how we can make a difference, whether by donating, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness.
Even a small gesture can go a long way in brightening someone’s day and helping neighbors in need. Let’s take a moment to share a little kindness and nourishment with those around us. 💛
For local ways to help, consider reaching out to your nearest food bank or pantry – every contribution matters! See the list below.
See you out there in beautiful Wake,
Diane

That Pesky Squirrel Strikes Again – Power is Back!
Wake Forest residents experienced a flicker in their Friday morning routine when an unlikely culprit caused a sudden power outage—none other than a daring squirrel!
According to local utility officials, nearly 700 customers lost power after the tiny troublemaker made contact with electrical equipment. The outage left homes dark and coffee makers silent, but crews jumped into action immediately. Power was fully restored within a couple of hours, sparing residents from an extended disruption.
This isn’t the first time a squirrel has caused such chaos. In fact, mischievous rodents are responsible for more power outages across the U.S. than severe weather in some years! Utility crews even have a nickname for these incidents: “critter trips.”
While the squirrel may have caused a stir, residents are grateful for the quick response and are finding humor in the unexpected hiccup. As one local joked, “That squirrel just wanted to remind us who’s in charge!”
Possible New Tropical Depression Later This Week
Forecasters are watching a tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic that has a 70% chance of developing into a tropical depression by the weekend. The system is currently producing disorganized showers and storms near the Cabo Verde Islands.
If it strengthens, it would become Tropical Depression Seven, and potentially Tropical Storm Gabrielle.
Forecast models show different paths:
A stronger system may curve north, staying out to sea.
A weaker one could drift west toward the Caribbean or even the southeastern U.S.
For now, impacts remain uncertain, but experts urge residents in vulnerable areas to stay alert, monitor forecasts, and review hurricane plans. Read More
