What’s Happening in Wake County?
Proposed Data Center Near Apex Raises
Concerns Over Energy Costs
Plans for a large data center near Apex are stirring debate in the community. Supporters point to potential job creation and new tax revenue, while critics fear the facility’s massive power needs could drive up electric bills for residents.
Data centers can consume as much electricity as a small city, and with Duke Energy already planning rate increases, some worry the added demand will put more pressure on household budgets.
Local leaders say they are weighing the economic benefits against long-term infrastructure and cost concerns. Public hearings are scheduled in the coming weeks to gather community input before any decision is made. Read More

🌟 Everyday Hero: The Mail Carrier Who Delivers More Than Mail
In our fast-paced world, heroes aren’t always the ones in headlines or capes—they’re the people quietly making a difference in our communities every single day. Take Maria Lopez, a mail carrier in Wake County, North Carolina. On her route for over 15 years, Maria does more than deliver letters and packages—she delivers care, connection, and kindness.
Each morning, Maria sets out on her route, rain or shine, with a warm smile and a keen eye for noticing those in need. She checks in on elderly residents, brings a package inside for someone recovering from surgery, and even leaves a friendly note for children waiting for a special delivery. To her neighbors, she’s more than a mail carrier—she’s a trusted friend who ensures no one feels forgotten.
Her small acts of kindness have created ripples throughout the community. When a local family faced a sudden hardship, Maria organized a neighborhood effort to bring meals and essentials to their door. When a child lost a beloved pet, she delivered a hand-drawn card, signed “from your mail carrier.” These gestures, though simple, carry profound meaning.
Maria’s story reminds us that heroism doesn’t always require grand gestures. It’s found in consistent, compassionate actions that uplift others and strengthen community bonds. Her dedication proves that everyday heroes exist all around us—they may wear a uniform, carry a clipboard, or simply take the time to notice someone’s need.
Next time you see someone quietly making life a little brighter, remember: heroes aren’t always in the spotlight. Sometimes, they’re walking right past your mailbox, making the world a kinder place one small act at a time.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
