Hello friends!
Today, we pause to honor Patriot Day and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. It’s a day to reflect, to cherish our communities, and to recognize the courage of first responders, military personnel, and everyday heroes who stepped forward in the face of tragedy. Take a moment today to reach out to someone you care about, share a kind word, or simply hold your loved ones a little closer. Even small gestures help us carry forward the spirit of unity and resilience that defines this day.
See you out there in beautiful Wake,
Diane
—Philippians 4:6

Wake County School Board Considers Calendar Change
The Wake County School Board is reviewing a proposal to move North Forest Pines and Pleasant Union Elementary from a multi-track year-round calendar to a single-track year-round schedule starting in the 2027–28 school year. Supporters say the change could lower costs while keeping the benefits of year-round learning, such as reduced summer learning loss and better support for students with special needs. The board has not set a final vote, and community input will be considered before a decision is made.

A Lifeline in the Dark: Two Strangers Save a 7-Year-Old's Life
In August 2025, a devastating car crash on Columbia Parkway in Ohio left 7-year-old Michael Askins with life-threatening injuries, including paralysis and the loss of his left leg. His mother, Jonni Evans, was also critically injured and trapped in the wreckage.
Amid the chaos, two strangers—Christopher Collette and David Sebastian—arrived at the scene. Without hesitation, they administered CPR to Michael, keeping him alive until paramedics arrived. Doctors later revealed that Michael had only a 1% chance of survival that night.
The family, overwhelmed with gratitude, sought to locate these heroes. Thanks to social media, they connected with Collette and Sebastian, and a reunion is now being planned once Michael is well enough. Both rescuers attribute their actions to divine intervention and say the experience has profoundly impacted their lives.
This story is a powerful reminder that in our darkest moments, the light of human compassion can shine through.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
