This Week’s Feature-North Carolina Fall Adventures

Experience Fall Magic at Linville Falls, North Carolina

Nestled along the iconic Blue Ridge Parkway, Linville Falls is one of North Carolina’s most breathtaking natural wonders—especially in the fall. As the leaves transform into fiery shades of red, gold, and orange, the waterfall becomes framed in a kaleidoscope of autumn color, creating a picture-perfect setting for hikers, photographers, and nature lovers alike.

The Erwins View Trail offers a moderately challenging hike that rewards visitors with spectacular vantage points of the falls and the surrounding forest. The trail winds through dense woods, offering glimpses of wildlife and the sound of rushing water, making every step an immersive experience in nature. At the overlook, hikers are treated to sweeping views of the waterfall cascading into the Linville Gorge below, surrounded by vibrant fall foliage—a true feast for the eyes and soul.

For those eager to catch the leaves at their peak, late October to early November is generally the best time to visit. Elevation, temperature, and rainfall can affect the exact timing, so checking local foliage reports before your trip is recommended to ensure you don’t miss the most vivid colors.

Whether you’re seeking a serene solo hike, a romantic autumn outing, or a family adventure, Linville Falls in fall offers a stunning display of nature’s beauty. It’s a perfect destination to slow down, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and celebrate the season in all its colorful glory.

We make every effort to provide accurate information, but restaurant deals may change at any time. Please call ahead to confirm the current offer.

What’s Happening in Wake County?

Rainfall Below Average This Month

Rainfall totals have dropped well below average across the region this month, leaving conditions unusually dry. The U.S. Drought Monitor reports that much of the Southeast and parts of the Mid-Atlantic are now classified as “abnormally dry,” with some areas slipping into moderate drought.

Meteorologists say persistent high pressure is pushing storms away, limiting rain chances. Farmers are already reporting stress on crops, and stream levels are beginning to decline. If the dry trend continues, drought conditions could expand in the weeks ahead.

Second Arrest Made in Moonglow Drive Shootout

Wake County deputies have confirmed that a second suspect is now in custody following the recent shootout on Moonglow Drive, just outside Raleigh. The incident, which shook a quiet neighborhood, left one person injured and caused damage to several homes and cars after bullets struck across the area.

Authorities say one suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting, and this second arrest marks continued progress in the case. While investigators are still working to piece together what led to the gunfire, neighbors are relieved to see action being taken.

Wake News & Events will continue to follow this story and keep the community updated as more details are released.

Special Education Teacher Charged in Assault of Disabled Student

A Wake County special education teacher has been arrested following allegations that she assaulted a disabled student at Rolesville High School.

According to a warrant, the incident happened earlier this month and led to the teacher’s arrest on Monday. The name of the teacher and specific details of the alleged assault have not yet been publicly released, but school officials confirmed that she has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Wake County Public Schools issued a statement emphasizing their commitment to student safety and well-being, noting that they are cooperating fully with law enforcement.

Parents and community members have expressed shock and concern, especially given the vulnerable nature of the students entrusted to special education programs. Advocacy groups stress the importance of vigilance, transparency, and strong safeguards for children with disabilities.

The case remains under investigation, and further details are expected in the coming days.

Wake News & Events will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.

Raleigh Attorney Accused of Embezzling Over $1 Million from Clients and Firm

Raleigh, N.C. — A Raleigh attorney is facing serious allegations after being accused of embezzling more than $1 million from clients and from the very law firm where he once worked.

According to court records, 36-year-old Korey Devin Kiger is under investigation for multiple instances of financial misconduct. Complaints filed by both his former firm and at least one client describe missing funds and a breach of trust that could have far-reaching consequences.

One client, devastated by the allegations, told investigators: “I trusted Mr. Kiger.” That trust, prosecutors say, was violated through a pattern of embezzlement that spanned several years.

Legal experts note that cases involving attorneys are particularly troubling because clients rely on them for guidance during some of the most stressful times in their lives. “When an attorney misuses client funds, it undermines confidence in the entire profession,” one local attorney shared.

Kiger now faces multiple criminal charges, and the North Carolina State Bar has been notified. Disciplinary actions, including possible disbarment, could follow depending on the outcome of the case.

The investigation remains ongoing. For clients and colleagues impacted, the accusations raise not only financial concerns but also questions of accountability and oversight in the legal profession.

Giraffe Helps Deliver a Marriage Proposal

At a wildlife preserve in Northern California, love and a gentle giant teamed up for a proposal that will be remembered for a lifetime.

When Zachary Gladnick decided to ask his longtime girlfriend, a veterinarian, to marry him, he wanted the moment to be both meaningful and unforgettable. With the help of Mazi, a towering giraffe with a gentle spirit, he created just that.

As part of the preserve’s “giraffe painting” tour—a program where guests can watch giraffes create artwork while supporting their care—Mazi took up a paintbrush. With a few careful strokes guided by trainers, the giraffe revealed a canvas that read the words every hopeful partner longs to hear: “Will you marry me?”

The bride-to-be was stunned, then overjoyed, as Zachary dropped to one knee beside the giraffe who had just delivered the big question. She said “yes” without hesitation, making Mazi an unlikely but unforgettable part of their love story.

The moment wasn’t just magical for the couple—it also supported a greater cause. Proceeds from the painting experience go directly toward caring for the giraffes at the preserve, ensuring these majestic animals receive food, medical care, and enrichment.

In the end, the proposal was more than just a personal milestone; it was a beautiful reminder of how love—for each other and for animals—can create memories that last forever.

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
