Hello friends!
Today is National Love People Day, a special reminder that kindness and love are needed more than ever in our world. Even small gestures can make a big difference and brighten someone’s day.
Here are two simple ways you can share love and kindness today:
Reach out to someone with a heartfelt message—send a text, make a phone call, or write a note to let someone know you appreciate them.
Perform a random act of kindness—hold the door open, help a neighbor, or give a genuine compliment to a stranger.
Let’s all take a moment to spread positivity and remind each other that a little love goes a long way. Together, we can make the world a brighter, more caring place.
See you out there in beautiful Wake,
Diane
—Philippians 4:6

This Week’s Feature-North Carolina Fall Festivals
Savor the Flavor and Tap Your Toes: The Spruce Pine BBQ Championship & Bluegrass Festival Returns!
Get ready, North Carolina! The Spruce Pine BBQ Championship & Bluegrass Festival is back, bringing a mouthwatering mix of smoky BBQ, toe-tapping bluegrass, and family-friendly fun to the heart of downtown Spruce Pine. Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, because this one-day festival is a can't-miss celebration of Southern flavor and Appalachian music.
Held on Locust Street in downtown Spruce Pine, this festival offers the perfect fall outing for families, friends, and anyone who loves great food and live music. From the moment you arrive, you'll be greeted by the irresistible aroma of smoked ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and classic Carolina-style BBQ. Dozens of local pitmasters compete for the championship title, giving visitors the chance to sample award-winning barbecue and vote for their favorites.
But it’s not just about the food—music is at the heart of the festival. Enjoy a full day of bluegrass performances featuring bands like Yesteryear, Carolina Bluegrass Style, JAM – Jody and Mark, and Rhonda Gouge & Friends. With each set, you’ll feel the Appalachian roots come alive, from lively fiddle tunes to soulful harmonies that make it impossible to sit still.
The festival also boasts fun activities for the whole family. Kids can enjoy face painting, crafts, and games, while adventurous adults can try their hand at Clever Rabbit Axe Throwing. Local vendors showcase crafts, artisanal goods, and unique keepsakes, making it easy to take a piece of Spruce Pine home with you.
Beyond the food, music, and activities, the festival supports a great cause. Proceeds benefit local non-profits and educational programs, meaning every bite and every tune helps strengthen the community.
Whether you’re a BBQ aficionado, a bluegrass enthusiast, or simply looking for a fun fall outing, the Spruce Pine BBQ Championship & Bluegrass Festival offers something for everyone. Come for the ribs, stay for the music, and leave with memories (and maybe a full belly) that will last long after the last chord is played.
Don’t miss it: Saturday, October 4, 2025, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Locust Street, Spruce Pine, NC. Bring your appetite, your dancing shoes, and your love for all things Southern!

🐾 A Giant Heart for a Giant Cat: Patches' Inspiring Transformation
In April 2023, a 40.3-pound cat named Patches captured hearts worldwide when Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) introduced him as "the largest cat anyone has ever seen." His story quickly went viral, leading to an overwhelming response from potential adopters. Among them was Kay Ford, who felt an immediate connection with Patches and was determined to provide him with a loving home.
Upon adoption, Kay embarked on a dedicated journey to help Patches achieve a healthier weight. With guidance from a compassionate veterinarian, Patches was placed on a special diet and exercise plan tailored to his needs. The transformation was remarkable. Within a year, Patches shed over 15 pounds, bringing his weight down to approximately 25 pounds. His mobility improved, allowing him to engage more actively with his environment and fellow feline companions.
Kay documented Patches' progress on a Facebook page aptly named "Patches' Journey," which has garnered a supportive community of over 51,000 followers. Through regular updates, photos, and videos, fans have witnessed Patches' milestones, from his initial struggles to his newfound energy and playfulness.
Patches' story is a testament to the power of second chances and the profound bond between humans and animals. It underscores the importance of responsible pet ownership and the impact of love and commitment in transforming lives. As Patches continues his journey toward optimal health, he serves as an inspiration to all, reminding us that with patience, care, and compassion, remarkable transformations are possible.
