Raleigh Teaching Assistant Charged with Assaulting Student
A Raleigh-area elementary school assistant has been charged with assaulting a 9-year-old special-needs student.
Tiffany Krystine Ebron, 29, an instructional assistant at East Garner Elementary School, is facing three misdemeanor charges: assault on a child under 12, assault on an individual with a disability, and child abuse.
According to arrest warrants, the November 14 incident involved Ebron allegedly lifting the student by the feet, causing his head to hit the floor, and dragging him across the classroom. The child suffered carpet burns and reported head pain.
Ebron was arrested, released on a $15,000 bond, and is barred from school property. She has been suspended with pay. Her next court date is January 11. Read More
Students Are Choosing Charter Schools — But Access Isn’t Equal
Charter school enrollment in North Carolina has tripled over the past decade, with nearly 144,000 students now attending 210 charter schools statewide. However, this growth isn’t benefiting all counties equally.
While families in urban areas like Wake, Mecklenburg, and Durham have multiple charter options, 37 counties still have no charter schools at all, leaving many rural families without access. Demand remains high, with over 85,000 students on waitlists statewide.
As charter schools continue to expand, equity remains a concern—especially for students in communities still waiting for school choice to reach them. Read More

🎨 Finding Strength in Every Stroke: Marydith’s Story
Here’s a little inspiration to brighten your day—straight out of Raleigh.
Meet Marydith Sanders, a retired teacher who’s been living with multiple sclerosis for over 20 years. While the disease brought physical challenges, it didn’t dim her spirit. In fact, it reignited her passion for something truly beautiful: painting.
Encouraged by a memory of a college art piece her late husband cherished, Marydith picked up a brush and never looked back. Since retiring in 2009, she’s created nearly 1,000 paintings, filling her world (and others’) with color, peace, and purpose.
Each canvas helps her stay strong—not just physically, as painting keeps her muscles moving—but emotionally too. Her message? “Don’t let life’s challenges define you. Find your joy and lean into it.”
Marydith’s journey is a heartfelt reminder that healing doesn’t always come from medicine—sometimes it’s found in the quiet strokes of a paintbrush and the courage to begin again.
