🎣 Hooked on North Carolina:
The Best Bass Fishing Spots in the State
North Carolina is a bass angler’s dream — offering everything from quiet mountain lakes to sprawling coastal reservoirs. Whether you're chasing largemouth, smallmouth, or spotted bass, the Tar Heel State has waters that consistently produce big bites and exciting fights.
Here’s where to cast your line if you want the best of the best:
Jordan Lake (Chatham & Wake Counties)
Why it’s great:
One of the best largemouth bass lakes in the state — hands down. Jordan Lake is famous for its healthy fish population, structure-rich coves, and relatively shallow depths, which make it accessible for beginners and pros alike.
Hot tip:
Target the points and brush piles in the early morning with crankbaits and topwater lures.
Lake Norman (Near Charlotte)
Why it’s great:
North Carolina’s largest man-made lake offers strong numbers of spotted and largemouth bass. The lake’s clear waters and complex shoreline provide a challenging and rewarding experience.
Hot tip:
Use finesse techniques and fish deeper structures during the midday heat.
Lake James (Foothills Region)
Why it’s great:
A scenic mountain lake with some of the best smallmouth bass fishing in the state. Its rocky points and deep, cool waters are perfect for anglers seeking a change of pace.
Hot tip:
Try drop-shotting near submerged rock piles and creek mouths.
Shearon Harris Reservoir (Wake County)
Why it’s great:
A hidden gem close to Raleigh, Shearon Harris is known for producing trophy-sized largemouth bass. With limited shoreline access, the fishing pressure is low — which keeps the bass big and bold.
Hot tip:
Fish near the warm water discharge during cooler months for active bass.
Kerr Lake (Kerr Reservoir, Vance & Warren Counties)
Why it’s great:
This massive body of water on the NC/VA border is renowned for year-round bass action, especially in spring and fall. It’s a favorite for tournament anglers due to its size and consistent productivity.
Hot tip:
Focus on submerged timber and creek arms after a rainfall for topwater strikes.
Final Cast:
North Carolina offers a wide range of bass fishing experiences — whether you're in the Triangle, the Piedmont, or the mountains. So grab your rod, your favorite lures, and maybe even a buddy — because the best bass bite in the Southeast is right here in NC.

What’s Happening in Wake County?
One Suitcase Too Many
In a cheap Raleigh motel, a black suitcase sat quietly in Room 212. It looked ordinary—until a tip led Detective Sarah Jensen to it.
Inside: 100,000 fentanyl pills, blue and deadly. Street value: millions. Lethal potential: even more.
Darnell “Ghost” Jackson, a known gang affiliate, barely reacted when arrested. “You’re too late,” he muttered as they cuffed him. “That’s just Raleigh’s share.”
Sarah stared him down. “Not anymore.”
One bust wouldn’t stop it all—but it was a start. And sometimes, that’s enough to save a city. Read More
