Honoring North Carolina’s Military Legacy

North Carolina is home to one of the most robust military footprints in the United States. Across the sandhills, coastline, and heartland, generations of service members have trained, deployed, and defended our nation from this proud Southern state. On Memorial Day — and every day — we honor the bases that have shaped our military strength and the courageous men and women who have answered the call from these hallowed grounds.

Fort Bragg (Fayetteville, NC)

Fort Bragg, is the largest U.S. Army base by population and the beating heart of America’s airborne and special operations forces. Home to the 82nd Airborne Division, XVIII Airborne Corps, and U.S. Army Special Operations Command, it is a launching point for global missions and humanitarian efforts alike.

Here, soldiers train not just for war, but for leadership, resilience, and unity. It is a place where heroes rise and legacies are built.

We honor every paratrooper, every special forces soldier, and every family who has stood strong through deployments, loss, and sacrifice.

Camp Lejeune (Jacksonville, NC)

Since 1941, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune has trained and deployed America’s expeditionary forces. Set along the Atlantic coast, it is a vital location for amphibious warfare and rapid deployment. Alongside Marine Corps Air Station New River, Camp Lejeune is the backbone of the II Marine Expeditionary Force.

Generations of Marines have begun their service here — molded by discipline, integrity, and courage.

We remember every Marine who took their final steps on North Carolina soil before giving everything for their country.

Seymour Johnson Air Force Base (Goldsboro, NC)

At Seymour Johnson AFB, precision takes flight. Home to the 4th Fighter Wing and the renowned F-15E Strike Eagle fleet, the base has provided air superiority and combat readiness since World War II. From Southeast Asia to the Middle East, airmen trained in Goldsboro have made their mark on history.

We salute the brave pilots, support crews, and families whose service in the sky begins here on the ground.

Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City (Elizabeth City, NC)

A sentinel on North Carolina’s northeastern coast, Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City is one of the largest and most essential facilities for U.S. Coast Guard aviation. It leads in search and rescue, humanitarian missions, and maritime law enforcement, serving as a lifeline for those in peril on the sea.

We recognize the selfless guardians who save lives and protect our shores, often at great risk to their own.

Pope Army Airfield (Fayetteville, NC)

Located next to Fort Liberty, Pope Army Airfield has supported airborne and logistical missions for over a century. Its strategic position and coordination with the U.S. Air Force and Army make it critical for troop deployments and emergency response efforts around the world.

We honor every airman and soldier who took flight from Pope to serve far from home.

North Carolina’s military installations do more than train troops — they shape character, build unity, and defend freedom. Each base is a monument to discipline, courage, and duty, etched with the stories of those who have worn the uniform with honor.

To the veterans, active-duty members, and military families who have called these bases home:
We thank you. We remember you. We honor you.

This Memorial Day, may we pause not only to barbecue and relax — but to reflect on the lives lost, the service given, and the quiet strength of those who serve.

Safety Concerns at NC Coas

As crowds head to the North Carolina coast for Memorial Day weekend, officials are urging caution after 13 rip current rescues occurred last week in Emerald Isle. Despite moderate risk warnings, swimmers were caught off guard by powerful currents.

Adding to safety concerns, there are two active swim advisories due to high bacteria levels — including one at a public kayak launch in Southport. Swimmers are advised to check local water quality updates before entering the water.

Beachgoers should swim near lifeguards, watch for warning flags, and avoid areas under advisory. Read More

Wake Forest Family Finds Hope Through Neighborly Kindness

In the warm and welcoming town of Wake Forest, a family recently faced a difficult challenge that blossomed into a beautiful example of community strength and compassion.

The Williams family experienced an unexpected house fire that caused significant damage, leaving them without many of their belongings. In the face of this hardship, they turned to their neighbors — and what followed was truly inspiring.

Neighbors in Wake Forest quickly banded together, organizing donations of clothes, household essentials, and toys to help the family rebuild. Local businesses offered gift cards and meals, while friends and community members volunteered their time for childcare, transportation, and emotional support.

What made the biggest impact wasn’t just the material help, but the genuine care and connection. Children in the neighborhood created heartfelt cards, and neighbors made sure the Williams family felt surrounded by love and support.

Mrs. Williams said, “The kindness we’ve received here in Wake Forest has been incredible. It’s reminded us that this community is more than a place — it’s a family.”

This story shines a light on the power of community in Wake Forest, proving that even in tough times, unity and kindness can bring hope and healing.

If you’re ever in need or want to make a difference, remember: small acts of kindness create the strongest bonds.
