Determined to help, Ms. Martinez launched a small food and clothing drive in her classroom, reaching out to colleagues, parents, and local businesses for support.

By April 2025, her efforts grew into the “Forest Hills Care Closet,” a resource center providing free essentials to students and families facing homelessness or financial hardships. Thanks to Ms. Martinez’s kindness and persistence, over 100 families in the Raleigh community have received warm coats, food, school supplies, and more this year.
