A Romantic Escape to the Omni Grove Park Inn: North Carolina’s Mountain Jewel
By DK

Tucked into the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, the Omni Grove Park Inn is more than a resort—it’s a romantic retreat that feels like stepping into a storybook. Whether you're celebrating an anniversary, planning a surprise getaway, or simply craving quality time with your special someone, this timeless destination offers the perfect blend of elegance, history, and natural beauty.

Since opening its doors in 1913, the Grove Park Inn has welcomed guests with its signature red clay tile roof, stone façade, and panoramic views of the mountains. Perched high above Asheville, it offers sweeping vistas of the Blue Ridge Parkway and sunsets that seem to pause time. Couples are drawn here year-round, whether it’s for the vibrant colors of fall foliage, cozy winter nights by the fire, spring blooms, or summer sunshine on the terrace.

The resort is designed for romance in every detail. Elegant guest rooms feature mountain or courtyard views, many with original touches like granite fireplaces and Craftsman-style décor. The Spa at Grove Park Inn, a world-renowned subterranean oasis, invites couples to unwind together in mineral pools, saunas, and grotto-style waterfalls carved into stone walls. It’s consistently ranked among the best spas in the country, making it the ideal place for a couples massage or a relaxing soak. Guests can savor gourmet meals at the Sunset Terrace Restaurant, where al fresco dining comes with a front-row seat to one of the most breathtaking sunsets in North Carolina. Cozy corners and crackling fireplaces throughout the property set the perfect stage for quiet conversations, a glass of wine, or simply holding hands.

Beyond the resort, Asheville is just minutes away and filled with vibrant art galleries, farm-to-table restaurants, and a thriving craft beer scene. Guests can also spend a day at the famous Biltmore Estate, America’s largest private home, exploring its lush gardens and winery. Scenic drives along the Blue Ridge Parkway offer endless overlooks for romantic photos, while nearby hiking trails lead to waterfalls and mountaintop views.

There’s something undeniably magical about the Omni Grove Park Inn—the way the mountains seem to wrap around you, the warmth of century-old stone walls, and the feeling of being completely present with the person beside you. Whether you’re soaking in the spa’s serenity, dining under the stars, or simply gazing out at the horizon in quiet awe, the Grove Park Inn creates moments that linger long after the trip is over.

Planning tip: book spa appointments well in advance, as they fill up quickly, and don’t miss the nightly live piano music in the Great Hall for the perfect end to a romantic day.

Raleigh Teacher’s Compassion Creates Lifeline for Homeless Students

In March 2025, Linda Martinez, a devoted 5th-grade teacher at Forest Hills Elementary School in Raleigh, North Carolina, noticed that some of her students were struggling not only academically but also with basic needs like food and clothing. Determined to help, Ms. Martinez launched a small food and clothing drive in her classroom, reaching out to colleagues, parents, and local businesses for support.

By April 2025, her efforts grew into the “Forest Hills Care Closet,” a resource center providing free essentials to students and families facing homelessness or financial hardships. Thanks to Ms. Martinez’s kindness and persistence, over 100 families in the Raleigh community have received warm coats, food, school supplies, and more this year.

One parent, Tanya Wilson, shared her gratitude:

“Ms. Martinez didn’t just teach my son math and reading—she gave our family hope when we felt invisible.”

Inspired by this success, the Wake County Public School System is exploring ways to expand the Care Closet program to other schools, proving how one person’s heart can change an entire community.

"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
