📍 Today’s North Carolina Trivia📍
🌳 North Carolina Trivia Time!
Did you know that North Carolina’s official state tree is the Pine Tree? 🌲
But not just any pine—it represents all species of pine native to the state (and there are quite a few!). The pine was chosen because of its strength, resilience, and the fact that it covers more of NC’s landscape than any other tree. Plus, it’s a vital part of the state’s economy and ecosystem.
So next time you’re enjoying a walk through the woods or just admiring the trees lining your street, give a little nod to our state’s tall, green, and fragrant symbol. North Carolina sure knows how to stand tall and stay rooted! 😉
📍On This Day in History📍
1898 – The Spanish-American War begins.
After the explosion of the USS Maine and rising tensions, the U.S. formally declared war on Spain. The conflict marked America’s emergence as a global power.

🌟 Spotlight on Tarboro, NC: A Small Town with a Big Heart
Looking for your next day trip or weekend adventure? Say hello to Tarboro, a small Eastern North Carolina town packed with history, beauty, and a whole lot of charm. Whether you’re a history buff, nature lover, or just looking to unwind somewhere new, Tarboro is a hidden gem that deserves a spot on your travel list.
Founded in 1760, Tarboro is one of the oldest towns in North Carolina and served as a hub of commerce and government in colonial times. In fact, Tarboro’s Town Common, established in 1760, is one of only two remaining original colonial town commons in the United States! It was originally set aside for public use—including grazing animals and militia drills—and today it’s a beautifully preserved green space right in the heart of town.
The entire Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and features 45 blocks of stately homes, churches, and buildings that date back to the 18th and 19th centuries. It’s like walking through a Southern storybook.
Explore the Historic District: Take a self-guided walking tour of beautiful homes and historic landmarks, including the Blount-Bridgers House, an 1808 mansion that now houses art exhibits and local history.
Stroll the Town Common: Grab a coffee and enjoy the peaceful beauty of this well-kept green space—it’s perfect for picnicking, relaxing, or just soaking up the sun.
Visit the Tar River: The scenic Tar River winds around the edge of town, offering opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, or just snapping a few nature photos along the riverside trails.
Shop & Dine Downtown: Tarboro’s quaint downtown is filled with locally-owned shops, antique stores, and cozy restaurants. Be sure to try a plate of Southern comfort food or grab a sweet treat from a local bakery.
Blount-Bridgers House Museum & Art Gallery: Explore exhibits from both local artists and regional history. The home itself is a piece of living history.
Tarboro is lovely year-round, but it really shines in the spring and fall, when the weather is mild and the scenery is at its peak. And if you're timing your trip with local events, even better!
Here are a few local favorites:
Tarboro Homecoming (October) – Celebrate the town's history with food, music, and community fun. It’s like a big family reunion—open to everyone!
Spring Garden Tour (April/May) – Take a peek into some of the most beautiful private gardens and historic homes in the area.
Downtown Live! Concert Series (Summer Months) – Enjoy free live music on warm summer evenings right in the heart of downtown.
Christmas Town Events (December) – Think lights, parades, caroling, and a whole lot of holiday cheer. Tarboro goes all in on festive fun.
💡 Why Visit Tarboro?
Because sometimes the best destinations are the ones that aren’t on everyone’s radar. Tarboro offers Southern hospitality, rich history, and peaceful charm without the crowds. It’s the kind of place that feels like home—even if it’s your first time visiting.
So go ahead—take a break from the hustle and bustle, and let Tarboro surprise you. Pack a picnic, grab your walking shoes, and get ready to fall in love with one of North Carolina’s best-kept secrets.

New Bern Resident Snags $6.7 Million Win on $2 Digital Ticket
A lucky lottery player in North Carolina turned just $2 into a record-setting fortune, winning over $6.7 million through a digital instant ticket purchased online.
The winner, who hails from New Bern, scored big on a Monopoly-themed digital game, landing the massive jackpot on April 8. This victory marks the largest prize ever awarded in North Carolina's growing lineup of digital instant games, which launched less than two years ago.
The winning ticket was part of a multi-state online instant game collaboration, offering players in both North Carolina and Virginia a shot at life-changing jackpots. With odds of 1 in 25 million, the $6,745,117 win was both a rare and historic moment for the state’s online lottery program.
Following the win, the game's jackpot reset to $150,000 and is expected to climb again as more players try their luck. The North Carolina Education Lottery confirmed that the lucky winner has 180 days to officially claim the prize.
Digital instant games have become increasingly popular across the state, offering quick gameplay, the excitement of scratch-offs, and the convenience of playing from home or on the go.
For one New Bern resident, that convenience just paid off in a very big way.

This Week’s Featured Essential Oil
Wintergreen Essential Oil
Nature’s Invigorating Relief
Wintergreen essential oil, derived from the leaves of the Gaultheria procumbens plant, offers a refreshing, minty scent that has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Known for its soothing and invigorating properties, Wintergreen oil is a staple in both aromatherapy and natural wellness routines.
Key Benefits of Wintergreen Essential Oil
Muscle and Joint Relief: One of the most popular uses for Wintergreen oil is its ability to ease sore muscles and joint discomfort. When diluted and massaged into the skin, it provides a cooling sensation that can help alleviate tension and inflammation, making it a go-to remedy for athletes or anyone experiencing physical strain.
Refreshing and Energizing: With its crisp, minty aroma, Wintergreen oil can help clear the mind, uplift the spirit, and promote mental clarity. It’s often used to invigorate the senses during times of fatigue or sluggishness.
Natural Pain Relief: Wintergreen contains methyl salicylate, a compound found in aspirin, which is known for its pain-relieving properties. This makes Wintergreen oil an excellent choice for addressing headaches and muscle pain.
Skin Care: Wintergreen’s anti-inflammatory properties make it beneficial in skin care for soothing irritations and calming redness, though it should always be used with caution and in proper dilution due to its potency.
How to Use Wintergreen Essential Oil
Aromatically: Diffuse Wintergreen oil in your home or office to enjoy its refreshing, energizing scent. It can also help purify the air.
Topically: Mix Wintergreen with a carrier oil and massage it into areas of discomfort, such as sore muscles or tense shoulders. Always perform a patch test first to ensure skin sensitivity.
In a Bath: Add a few drops of Wintergreen oil to your bath water for a soothing, full-body relaxation experience.
While Wintergreen oil is effective and beneficial, it should be used with care. Due to its high concentration of methyl salicylate, it should not be ingested and must be diluted properly when applied topically. It’s also advised to keep it away from children and pregnant women.
Incorporating Wintergreen essential oil into your wellness routine can provide a natural, refreshing way to support both your physical and mental well-being. Whether you're soothing tired muscles or simply enjoying a burst of freshness, this essential oil is a versatile addition to any collection.
