Hello friends!
Today is National Hero’s Day, a special reminder that heroes are all around us — not just in stories or movies, but in our everyday lives. They are the teachers who inspire us, the friends who lift us up, the family members who support us, and the neighbors who lend a hand when we need it most.
Take a moment today to let your heroes know why they are your heroes. A simple note, a call, or even a heartfelt message can make a world of difference. Sharing your gratitude not only honors them but also spreads positivity and reminds us all of the power of kindness, courage, and everyday heroism.
Who’s your hero today? Don’t wait — tell them why they inspire you.
See you out there in beautiful Wake,
Diane
—Philippians 4:6

School Bus Wreck on Doc Procter Road in Wendell
Early Monday morning, a school bus was involved in a wreck along Doc Procter Road in Wendell, sending emergency crews quickly to the scene. The bus, carrying students to school, left the roadway after a collision that is still under investigation.
Officials say all students were safely evacuated, and minor injuries, if any, are still being assessed. Parents were contacted immediately, and another bus was dispatched to finish the route.
Doc Procter Road was temporarily closed as law enforcement and tow crews worked the scene, creating delays for morning commuters. The cause of the crash has not yet been released, but authorities remind drivers to slow down and use caution in school zones and along narrow country roads.
Wake County Housing Market Update
The Wake County housing market saw a steady but cautious pace in the last quarter. Median home prices have remained relatively stable, hovering around $490,000, with some neighborhoods seeing modest gains while others experienced slight softening. Inventory levels are gradually improving, giving buyers a bit more breathing room after years of tight supply, though highly desirable homes still move quickly. Demand continues to be supported by strong local employment and the area’s growing reputation as a great place to live, but higher mortgage rates have made buyers more selective. Condominiums and older homes are showing the most price flexibility, while single-family homes in prime locations remain competitive. Experts expect moderate growth ahead, with home values holding steady and opportunities for buyers to negotiate in certain segments.

It’s part shopping trip, part community field trip—and yes, this bus really is a fridge on wheels. 🚍❄️ Want to see how it all came to life? Click here to explore the story.

Clara’s Gift of Giving Back
When Hurricane Helene tore through western North Carolina, it left behind more than downed trees and broken homes—it left behind broken spirits. For many, recovery felt like an impossible mountain to climb.
For Clara Carrias, a Mexican immigrant, mother of three, and part-time McDonald’s cook who studied English at community college, the storm struck her life with cruel precision. A tree came crashing through her house, destroying one of her children’s bedrooms. Suddenly, Clara and her family found themselves living in fear of rain, wind, and what might come next.
But rather than dwell on her own loss, Clara made a choice: she would serve. She joined BeLoved Asheville, a grassroots nonprofit devoted to helping families in crisis. Every day she spent hours sorting donated food, clothing, and toys. Then, she packed her car and drove into the mountains, delivering care packages down backroads that even seasoned drivers feared.
Her fluency in Spanish became a lifeline for Latino families who otherwise might have slipped through the cracks. She not only delivered food and supplies—she delivered comfort in a familiar language, a reminder that someone understood, someone cared.
And then, in a twist of grace, volunteers showed up at Clara’s own doorstep. They rebuilt the room her children had lost. They gave back to the woman who had been giving so freely. For Clara, it wasn’t just about the walls and roof—it was about the kindness that had come full circle.
Today, Clara is still out there volunteering, still driving those winding roads, still knocking on doors with a bag of food or a box of toys. “I know what it feels like to be helped,” she says softly, “and I want others to feel the same.”
Clara’s story is proof that sometimes the greatest strength comes not from what we’ve kept, but from what we’ve given away.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
