Freedom is a gift that generations before us fought to secure and preserve. On this day in history, June 12, 1987, President Ronald Reagan stood before the Brandenburg Gate in West Berlin and delivered his unforgettable challenge: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" His words became a powerful symbol of freedom's triumph over oppression and a reminder that the desire for liberty lives in the human heart.

As we look ahead to America's 250th birthday, may we never take for granted the freedoms we enjoy, the sacrifices that made them possible, and the responsibility we share to preserve them for future generations. We are blessed to call this remarkable nation home.

Wake Tech and Wake County are launching the new WakeWorks Youth Apprenticeship Academy, giving high school students a chance to earn free college credits, receive stipends, and get paid through apprenticeships in high-demand careers.
