🌊 Catch the Coastal Vibe:
Why Kure Beach Belongs on Your Must-Visit List! 🐚
Tucked away along North Carolina’s southern coast, Kure Beach (pronounced CURE-ee) is a small seaside gem that packs a delightful punch of history, charm, and beachside bliss. If you're craving a laid-back getaway where the waves whisper relaxation and adventure lives just down the boardwalk, this is your spot.
Kure Beach may be tiny, but it boasts some big-time history. Back in the 1920s, Hans Kure, a Danish immigrant, bought the land that would become this beach town. The Kure family built one of the first piers on the Atlantic Coast in 1923 — and today’s Kure Beach Fishing Pier still stands as one of the oldest on the East Coast. You can literally walk on history!
Nearby, Fort Fisher adds even more depth to the town’s story. This Civil War site was once the Confederacy’s last major coastal stronghold and now serves as a must-visit museum and state historic site. Think of it as a cannonball of culture with an ocean view.
Whether you're a beach bum, history buff, or traveling with a car full of kids and coolers, Kure Beach offers something for everyone:
🎣 Kure Beach Pier – Try your hand at fishing, grab an ice cream, or just enjoy the salty breeze. No fishing license needed!
🐢 NC Aquarium at Fort Fisher – Sea turtles, jellyfish, and even an albino alligator named Luna await inside this family favorite.
🚲 Oceanfront Trails & Bike Paths – Bring or rent a bike and cruise the coastline like a local.
🍤 Fresh Local Eats – Feast on shrimp burgers, hushpuppies, and fresh seafood from cozy mom-and-pop spots — all without the beach-town bustle.
🌅 Gorgeous Sunsets – End your day with pastel skies and gentle waves. Pro tip: bring a beach chair and a good book.
Kure Beach is where flip-flops replace deadlines, and kids still chase waves with sandy smiles. It’s less touristy than Carolina Beach and more relaxed than Wilmington — think of it as the coastal cousin who knows how to unwind.
In the summer, enjoy free outdoor concerts, movies in the park, and local art pop-ups. It’s the kind of place where the locals know your name (and probably your dog’s too).
Whether you're in it for the salt air, the local lore, or just a peaceful spot to unplug, Kure Beach is a coastal escape you’ll want to return to again and again.
So pack your sunscreen, leave your stress at home, and head south — Kure Beach is calling! 🏖️🌞

What’s Happening in Wake County?
A Rise in Snakebits This Year
Hospitals across the Triangle are reporting a rise in snakebite cases this year, with numbers already matching or surpassing previous records. WakeMed has treated over 25 patients since April, while UNC Health and Duke have also seen an uptick, with most bites coming from copperhead snakes—the most common venomous species in the area. Statewide, snakebite reports are already outpacing 2020, which was previously the highest year on record.
Experts say the spike is due to a mix of factors: warmer weather keeping snakes active longer, continued construction pushing snakes into residential areas, and more people spending time outdoors doing yardwork, gardening, or walking. To stay safe, residents are advised to wear boots and gloves when outside, use flashlights at night, and keep yards free of debris that could attract snakes. Read More
Franklin Graham Charity Rebuilds Homes in NC
After Hurricane Helene devastated parts of North Carolina, Franklin Graham’s charity, Samaritan’s Purse, stepped in to help. One story, featured in The News & Observer, highlights 74-year-old Mary Lou Jenkins of Duplin County, who lost her family home in the storm.
Thanks to Samaritan’s Purse, Mary Lou now has a brand-new home. Volunteers quickly mobilized to rebuild houses for storm victims, bringing both tools and hope. “It’s beautiful,” Mary Lou said. “God answered my prayers.”
The charity plans to rebuild dozens more homes in hard-hit rural areas, offering relief and restoration to those in need. Read More
Local Animal Shelter Overcrowded, Urgently Needs Adopters
Paws & Whiskers Animal Shelter is overwhelmed with animals and is urgently asking the community to step up and adopt. With a surge in stray and abandoned pets, the shelter is operating at nearly double its capacity.
“We’re full in every kennel, and even using hallways for temporary housing,” said shelter manager Carla Ruiz. “These animals need loving homes now.”
Dogs, cats, and even small animals like rabbits are available—fully vaccinated, healthy, and ready to go home. To encourage adoptions, the shelter is waiving fees for the next two weeks and providing free starter kits to new pet parents.
If you’re able to adopt or foster, please visit Paws & Whiskers Animal Shelter at 1624 Elm Street, Wake Forest, NC, or call (919) 555-7812 for more information. “One visit can change a life—maybe yours,” Carla added. Read More

Mamacita Mexican Wows with $2 Taco Tuesday!
Wake Forest’s newest restaurant, Mamacita Mexican, is already making a name for itself—and we had to check it out for their popular Taco Tuesday special.
Located at 950 Gateway Commons Circle, Mamacita brings bold flavors and a fun, modern vibe to town. We stopped by for their Tuesday deal and were thrilled to find that the tacos were just $2 each—yes, only two bucks! From juicy carne asada to perfectly seasoned chicken and fresh veggie options, every taco was packed with flavor and made fresh to order.
The atmosphere was lively, the staff was friendly, and the food came out hot and fast. Even without their liquor license yet, Mamacita is already drawing a crowd—and for good reason.
If you love great food at an even better price, make plans to visit Mamacita on a Tuesday. These $2 tacos are a steal—and absolutely delicious!

❤️ When a Town Comes Together: A Single Dad’s Story of Hope in Sanford, NC
In the welcoming town of Sanford, North Carolina, a beautiful example of humanity unfolded when a struggling single dad found himself surrounded by unexpected kindness.
Marcus Lane, a hardworking father of two, had always managed to make ends meet—until a sudden layoff turned everything upside down. With bills stacking up, groceries running low, and school supplies just out of reach, Marcus quietly kept going, doing all he could to shield his kids from the weight of it all.
But sometimes, doing good doesn’t require a spotlight—just someone paying attention.
Anna Perkins, a local librarian who often saw Marcus and his kids during after-school visits, noticed something had changed. Marcus seemed tired. His kids weren’t laughing quite as much. So, Anna decided to check in. What happened next became something truly special.
She made a few calls to neighbors and community groups—and within days, Sanford did what small towns do best: it came together.
Donations poured in. A mechanic offered a free car repair. A retired teacher stepped in to help with tutoring. The local food pantry quietly filled bags with snacks and household items. And when a community group launched a fundraiser, more than $12,000 was raised to help Marcus cover rent, utilities, and back-to-school needs.
The support lifted a heavy burden—but it also did more than that. Thanks to one of the fundraiser organizers, Marcus landed a new job, and today he’s volunteering on weekends at the very pantry that once helped him.
“I never asked for help,” Marcus shaed. “But when it came, it changed everything. It gave me hope again.”
💛 A Reminder for Us All
In a time when it’s easy to feel divided, stories like Marcus’s remind us that good people are everywhere—quietly looking out for their neighbors, giving what they can, and choosing kindness over silence.
Let’s be like Sanford. Let’s notice. Let’s care. Let’s lift each other up—one small act at a time.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."

🍷 Cheers to Good Health:
For many seniors, enjoying a glass of wine is more than just a relaxing ritual — it can also offer some surprising health benefits when consumed in moderation.
Studies have shown that a moderate amount of red wine, about one glass a day, may help support heart health by improving blood circulation and raising “good” HDL cholesterol levels. The antioxidants found in wine, such as resveratrol, also have anti-inflammatory properties that could contribute to overall well-being.
Beyond the physical benefits, sharing a glass of wine with friends or family can boost social connections and lift the spirits — which is equally important for healthy aging.
Of course, moderation is key. Seniors should always check with their healthcare provider before adding wine to their routine, especially if they are on medications.
So next time you raise your glass, know that a little wine can be a toast to both enjoyment and health!
