Good Morning, Friends!

Carl and I are doing our best to keep you updated with all the local events, but if you know of something happening that we might have missed, please don’t hesitate to let us know. We love adding as many happenings to our calendar as possible to keep you in the loop!

We also know how much you love the garage, yard, and estate sales – and so do we! We've been out treasure hunting ourselves at a few sales recently. If you're hosting a garage or yard sale, we’d be happy to include it in our next newsletter. Just let us know the details, and we'll make sure it's listed. And if plans change and you need to cancel your sale, please give us a quick heads-up. We want to make sure no one ends up out there looking for a sale that isn’t there.

Wishing you a wonderful day ahead! 😊

Wishing you peace, purpose, and something lovely around every corner.

See you out there in beautiful Wake,
Diane

What’s Happening in Wake County?

Spike in Carjackings Alarms Raleigh Residents

Raleigh has seen a troubling rise in carjackings, echoing a broader increase in auto thefts across the city. In recent years, vehicle thefts have surged by more than 50%, prompting concerns among residents and local officials.

The Raleigh Police Department launched an Auto Theft Task Force in 2024 to combat the growing problem, but incidents continue to climb. High-profile cases, including a violent carjacking at Crabtree Valley Mall and a chase involving armed juveniles, have put the issue in the spotlight.

Officials are urging drivers to stay alert, lock their vehicles, and avoid leaving valuables in plain sight as the city works to curb this disturbing trend.

High Levels Over Easter Weekend, But Relief is Near

As we settle into spring in central North Carolina, one thing is impossible to ignore – the pollen. Over the Easter weekend, pollen levels in the area remained high, continuing the annual onslaught of yellow pine pollen that has been a fixture since late March. According to experts, it’s been almost a month since the pollen started to blanket the region, and although the sneezing, itchy eyes, and runny noses have been persistent, there is hope for relief.

The good news? A decent rain is all that’s needed to wash the pollen out of the air and bring an end to the worst of it. Rain showers, which are expected to arrive soon, will help clear the air, reducing pollen levels and giving allergy sufferers a much-needed break.

While it’s been a challenging start to spring for those affected by allergies, the end is in sight. So, hang in there – a little rain and the worst of the pollen season will be behind us!

For now, if you're struggling with allergies, it's a good idea to stay on top of local pollen forecasts, limit outdoor activities when levels are highest, and keep windows closed until the air clears up.

Stay patient, because relief is just one good rainstorm away! 🌧️🌸

Wake Forest Purchases Land for Future Park on Forestville Road

In a significant move for the town, the Wake Forest Board of Commissioners approved the purchase of 47.3 acres of land on Forestville Road during the Tuesday night meeting. The property, acquired for $9,350,000, will be developed into a future park and serve as a site for the town’s facilities maintenance.

Assistant Town Manager Allison Snyder made the announcement, highlighting the unanimous approval from the five commissioners. This new addition to Wake Forest’s green spaces is expected to provide more recreational opportunities for residents while also supporting the town's ongoing growth and infrastructure needs.

While specifics about the park’s design and timeline are still under discussion, the purchase marks an important step toward enhancing the community’s outdoor amenities and facilities for years to come. Stay tuned for further updates as plans for the development progress!

High-Speed Chase Ends in Fiery Crash on I-87 in Wake County

A high-speed chase in eastern Wake County came to a dramatic end Friday evening on I-87 near US-64 Business. The pursuit, initiated by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, saw the suspect's vehicle crash, overturn, and ignite in flames.

The incident occurred around 8:20 p.m. after the driver was initially stopped for speeding. Despite the fiery wreck, authorities confirmed that the driver was able to safely exit the vehicle and is expected to recover.

The crash scene remained active as the investigation continues, with no formal charges announced at this time. The State Highway Patrol is expected to provide further details as they work to piece together the events leading up to the chase.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers involved in high-speed pursuits, and law enforcement officials continue to evaluate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Wake County Rolls Out New Property Fraud Alert System

Wake County has launched an innovative new system designed to protect property owners from fraud. The Property Fraud Alert System will notify homeowners whenever any official documents—such as deeds or liens—are recorded against their property.

This proactive initiative aims to give residents peace of mind by alerting them to potential fraudulent activity in real time. The system was unveiled at the most recent town board meeting, where officials emphasized its importance in safeguarding the integrity of property ownership within the county.

Homeowners are encouraged to sign up for the alerts to stay informed and take immediate action if they suspect any irregularities. This step is part of Wake County’s continued efforts to enhance security and transparency in property transactions.

This Week’s Featured Essential Oil

Wintergreen Essential Oil

Nature’s Invigorating Relief

Wintergreen essential oil, derived from the leaves of the Gaultheria procumbens plant, offers a refreshing, minty scent that has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Known for its soothing and invigorating properties, Wintergreen oil is a staple in both aromatherapy and natural wellness routines.

Key Benefits of Wintergreen Essential Oil

  1. Muscle and Joint Relief: One of the most popular uses for Wintergreen oil is its ability to ease sore muscles and joint discomfort. When diluted and massaged into the skin, it provides a cooling sensation that can help alleviate tension and inflammation, making it a go-to remedy for athletes or anyone experiencing physical strain.

  2. Refreshing and Energizing: With its crisp, minty aroma, Wintergreen oil can help clear the mind, uplift the spirit, and promote mental clarity. It’s often used to invigorate the senses during times of fatigue or sluggishness.

  3. Natural Pain Relief: Wintergreen contains methyl salicylate, a compound found in aspirin, which is known for its pain-relieving properties. This makes Wintergreen oil an excellent choice for addressing headaches and muscle pain.

  4. Skin Care: Wintergreen’s anti-inflammatory properties make it beneficial in skin care for soothing irritations and calming redness, though it should always be used with caution and in proper dilution due to its potency.

How to Use Wintergreen Essential Oil

  • Aromatically: Diffuse Wintergreen oil in your home or office to enjoy its refreshing, energizing scent. It can also help purify the air.

  • Topically: Mix Wintergreen with a carrier oil and massage it into areas of discomfort, such as sore muscles or tense shoulders. Always perform a patch test first to ensure skin sensitivity.

  • In a Bath: Add a few drops of Wintergreen oil to your bath water for a soothing, full-body relaxation experience.

While Wintergreen oil is effective and beneficial, it should be used with care. Due to its high concentration of methyl salicylate, it should not be ingested and must be diluted properly when applied topically. It’s also advised to keep it away from children and pregnant women.

Incorporating Wintergreen essential oil into your wellness routine can provide a natural, refreshing way to support both your physical and mental well-being. Whether you're soothing tired muscles or simply enjoying a burst of freshness, this essential oil is a versatile addition to any collection.
