Hello friends!
Did you know the beloved hot dog has a story almost as juicy as the dogs themselves? Legend has it that the hot dog was invented right here in the United States by German immigrants in the late 1800s — inspired by the frankfurters from Frankfurt and the sausages from Vienna (that’s why they’re sometimes called “franks” or “wieners”). The first hot dog stands popped up at Coney Island in New York, where vendors served these tasty treats nestled in soft buns, perfect for eating on the go!
From ballparks to backyard barbecues, hot dogs have become an American classic—simple, satisfying, and endlessly customizable.
🍴 Want to celebrate National Hot Dog Day (July 16th) in style? Check out local eateries below in Wake County offering some sizzling hot dog deals — because nothing says summer like a juicy dog with all your favorite toppings!

Diane

📍 North Carolina Triva 📍
🌭 Hot Dogs & North Carolina Trivia
North Carolina is home to a unique regional hot dog style known as the “Carolina Hot Dog” — especially popular in the eastern part of the state. Unlike the classic all-beef hot dog, the Carolina Hot Dog often features a grilled all-beef frank served on a steamed bun and topped with chili, mustard, onions, and sometimes coleslaw or vinegar-based slaw.
One of the most famous spots for this local favorite is Cook Out, a North Carolina-born fast-food chain that’s beloved across the state for its classic hot dogs, burgers, and secret sauce.

NC Regains Top Spot as CNBC’s Best State for Business
North Carolina has reclaimed the No. 1 ranking on CNBC’s annual list of America’s Top States for Business, marking its third win in four years. The Tar Heel State scored especially high in economy, workforce, and business friendliness, thanks to strategic investments in education, infrastructure, and innovation. According to CNBC, North Carolina earned 1,614 out of 2,500 points, edging out Texas and Florida.
The ranking reflects rapid economic growth, including nearly 25,000 new jobs and over $18 billion in new investments in 2025 alone. Major projects like JetZero’s $4.7 billion aircraft plant in Greensboro and Amazon’s $10 billion data center in Richmond County signal strong momentum. Governor Josh Stein credited the state's skilled workforce and bipartisan collaboration for the success, while Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley emphasized that staying competitive requires constant effort. Enbridge Gas Proposes 12.37% Rate Increase for NC Residents
Enbridge Gas is seeking approval from the state Utilities Commission for a 12.37% rate hike that could raise monthly gas bills for thousands of NC households. If approved, the average residential customer would see an increase of about $6.30 per month, with higher jumps during the summer.
The company, which took over Dominion Energy’s NC gas operations, says the increase is needed to fund infrastructure upgrades and keep up with a growing customer base—adding over 53,000 new customers since 2021. Read More
Oscar Mayer Recalls Turkey Bacon Over Listeria Risk
Oscar Mayer has recalled nearly 368,000 pounds of its fully cooked turkey bacon due to possible Listeria contamination. The affected products, made between April 24 and June 11, include 12-oz, 36-oz, and 48-oz vacuum-packed packages with use-by dates from July 18 to September 4.

❤️ Small Acts, Big Impact: How a Raleigh Community United to Help a Homeless Veteran
In early 2025, the heart of Raleigh, North Carolina, showed its true colors when a group of strangers came together to support a homeless veteran named James.
James, a 62-year-old Navy veteran, had been living on the streets for several months after facing hardships following his discharge. Known among local shop owners for his gentle demeanor and quiet resilience, James’s situation touched the hearts of many.
What started as a few individuals offering meals and warm clothing quickly grew into a community-wide effort. Local businesses donated supplies, a nearby church organized weekly meal drives, and volunteers helped James find medical care and job resources. One nonprofit even stepped in to provide temporary housing while helping James connect with veteran services.
The highlight came when the community raised enough funds to secure James a permanent apartment. The keys were handed to him in a small, heartfelt ceremony attended by neighbors, volunteers, and city officials.
James’s story is a powerful reminder that compassion, no matter how small, can change lives. It also shows how communities can come together to support those who served and now need a helping hand.
As James shared after moving into his new home, “I never imagined so many people would care. It gives me hope to keep moving forward.”
💫 Why This Matters
In a world often overwhelmed by big problems, stories like James’s remind us that kindness still thrives—when people take the time to notice, listen, and act, they create ripples of hope that can transform lives.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."

55 Plus - The New Silver Standard
Why More Seniors 55+ Are Choosing to Keep Working
Retirement doesn’t always mean hanging up your hat for good. Increasingly, seniors aged 55 and older are deciding to stay in the workforce—and it’s about much more than just money.
For many, work provides a meaningful way to stay active, connected, and mentally sharp. It’s a chance to be part of a team, contribute skills, and keep life exciting. Plus, working often brings a social boost, helping seniors maintain friendships and avoid isolation.
Financial reasons play a role, too. Continuing to work helps supplement retirement income, manage healthcare expenses, and maintain a comfortable lifestyle without draining savings.
Employers are catching on, appreciating the wisdom, dedication, and mentorship seniors bring to the table. With flexible schedules and part-time roles becoming more common, working past 55 is easier and more rewarding than ever.
For today’s seniors, work is about purpose, community, and staying energized — making these years some of the best yet!
Here’s a breakdown of the approximate percentages of seniors still working at various ages based on recent U.S. labor statistics and studies:
Age 55–64: About 65% of people in this age group are still working or actively engaged in the labor force. Many are full-time, but a good portion work part-time or seasonally.
Age 65–69: Around 30% to 35% remain employed or working part-time. Many choose to work longer for financial reasons or personal fulfillment.
Age 70–74: Approximately 15% to 20% continue to work, often in part-time, consulting, or flexible roles.
Age 75 and older: About 8% to 10% of seniors still engage in some form of paid work, usually part-time or occasional jobs.
These numbers can vary by region, economic factors, and personal health, but the overall trend shows that more seniors are working longer than in previous decades.
