Looking for Waterfall Adventures?
Looking Glass Falls, located in Pisgah National Forest near Brevard, North Carolina, is one of the state’s most iconic and easily accessible waterfalls. This stunning waterfall drops about 60 feet over a smooth granite rock, which earned its name because it looks like a mirror when frozen in winter. Visitors can enjoy beautiful views of the falls right from the roadside or take a short staircase down to get closer and even wade in the water at the base. Conveniently situated just five miles north of Brevard and about 45 minutes southwest of Asheville, Looking Glass Falls is perfect for visitors of all ages since it requires no strenuous hiking. Parking is free but limited, so arriving early or on a weekday is recommended. If you plan to splash around, bringing water shoes is a good idea. Let me know if you'd like suggestions for more waterfall destinations in North Carolina!

NHC Eyes Two Areas for Tropical Development
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two areas in the Atlantic for potential tropical development.
The first, a tropical wave off Africa’s west coast, has a medium chance of forming later this week as it moves west over warm waters. The second, located east of the Lesser Antilles, remains less organized but could strengthen in the coming days.
With peak hurricane season approaching, the NHC urges coastal residents to stay alert and prepared as conditions can change quickly. Read More

Judge Rules Endometriosis Can Qualify for Disability

Endometriosis affects about 10% of women in the U.S., often causing chronic pain that can impact work and life. This ruling may help many women gain workplace and educational accommodations for menstrual and reproductive health issues. Read More

Stamford Downtown Launches “Kindness Thank You Card” Program to Celebrate Everyday Good Deeds
In Stamford, Connecticut, a vibrant city located in Fairfield County along the southwestern coast of the state, a heartwarming new initiative is shining a spotlight on the simple, everyday acts of kindness that often go unnoticed. The “Kindness Thank You Card” program was recently introduced by Stamford Downtown, in partnership with dedicated city ambassadors and local community organizations, to foster a stronger culture of appreciation and goodwill throughout the city’s bustling downtown area.
Here’s how the program works: specially trained city ambassadors and volunteers walk through popular pedestrian areas, parks, and commercial districts in Stamford, observing genuine moments of kindness — whether someone holds the door open for a stranger, helps an elderly neighbor cross the street, assists a fellow shopper with heavy bags, or shares a friendly smile or greeting.
When these thoughtful acts are spotted, the ambassadors distribute beautifully designed “Kindness Thank You Cards” to the recipients as a tangible token of appreciation. Recipients can redeem these cards at a growing list of local restaurants, cafes, and eateries participating in the program, enjoying complimentary treats such as coffee, pastries, or snacks.
By rewarding everyday kindness, the program encourages more people to engage in generous actions, creating a positive ripple effect throughout Stamford’s community. Additionally, by partnering with neighborhood businesses, it supports the local economy and strengthens the bond between residents and merchants.
The “Kindness Thank You Card” program reflects Stamford Downtown’s commitment to building a welcoming, friendly, and connected community — one kind deed at a time. Organizers hope this inspiring model will encourage other cities to promote kindness and community spirit in meaningful ways.
"And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up."
