Hello friends!
As America celebrates 250 years of freedom, courage, and opportunity, it’s a wonderful time to reflect on the incredible history that shaped our nation. On this day in 1775, the American Revolutionary War officially began — the start of a fight for liberty that changed the world forever. May we never take for granted the freedoms we enjoy and the sacrifices made to secure them. Here’s to celebrating the spirit of America and all the beauty, strength, and unity that continue to define our country today.
See you out there in beautiful Wake,

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
📍 Today’s Chuckle 📍
A hunter lost his bearings and wandered around the forest in a daze.
Suddenly, he spotted another man. Dropping his rifle, he threw his arms around the other's neck and screamed, "Boy, am I glad to see you! I've been lost in these woods for three days!"
"Restrain yourself," cautioned the other sadly, "I've been lost here for a week."

Call Me Old Fashioned
Before smartphones, streaming TV, and packed schedules, families in the early 1900s often found joy in the simple things — like taking a peaceful walk through nature and enjoying a homemade fried chicken picnic together. Maybe it’s time we bring that tradition back!
One of the best places to slow down and enjoy a classic family outing is William B. Umstead State Park. Tucked between Raleigh and Cary, this beautiful park offers heavily wooded trails, fresh air, and the kind of quiet that helps you reconnect with nature — and each other.
A local favorite is the Sal’s Branch Trail, a moderately easy 2.8-mile loop that winds through the forest and gives visitors an immersive woodland experience. After your walk, spread out a blanket or gather under one of the large picnic shelters located at both the Harrison Avenue and Glenwood Avenue entrances. Pack up some fried chicken, sweet tea, potato salad, and cookies, and suddenly you’ve stepped back into a simpler time when family memories were made one picnic at a time.
Helpful tips before you go:
• Most county and state parks are open daily from dawn to dusk
• Large groups should reserve picnic shelters in advance
• Bring plenty of water and insect repellent during warmer months
William B. Umstead State Park is located at 8801 Glenwood Ave in Raleigh, with another convenient entrance off Harrison Avenue in Cary. Sometimes the best adventures aren’t expensive or complicated — they’re the timeless traditions that remind us how good simple moments can be.
